Good quarter for them. Just need to make this a little more respectful to feel a little better going into the next game.

It's been known home arena clock operators will milk a few extra seconds. Unfortunately. AFL's still got a cheating problem, and it's more than just paying under the table.

so the refs are just going to refuse to call an obvious penalty on the Soul? hmm

Unfortunately, our best source of the rules is not here today. Some of these things just do not makes sense. David, do you have a thought on those? There's no secret that home teams get more favorable penalties, especially when it comes to Philadelphia, Arizona, and San Jose. Unless you're Spokane. And there was data to prove that Spokane was penalized more than most teams at home. As for the Illegal Formation thing? Here's what I get out of the rulebook: Four offensive players must be on the line of scrimmage at the snap; one of the linemen must declare himself the Tight End. I'm guessing a WR or a RB wasn't set properly? I'm not sure. As for the Bonus penalty? If you perform the same penalty x-number of times, like a false start or offsides, the other team gets the "bonus" so the penalty yardage on the team that is penalized will be twice the yardage. It's been in the AFL as long as I can remember it. We're used to it. We're Trail Blazers fans. On the play, they said the WR was covering up the lineman on the end, but he was at least 5 yards away. It was an excuse for the refs to take away a score for the Steel.

It's been in the AFL as long as I can remember it. The ref said both the "set" receivers were up on the line of scrimmage, so had "cover up the tight end" and was an illegal formation. In the NFL, I'm fairly sure you can have more than 7 guys on the line, just you'll make whoever is on the line and on the "inside" of the formation is no longer an eligible receiver and can't catch a pass or be downfield before a pass. No idea what happens in the AFL since have never seen it called before. And I don't think the bonus stuff has been around all too long, definitely not doubling the yardage after too many. I know they had made like after 3 or more offsides by the defense it would be 5 yards but an automatic first down also, back in the NBC era maybe, which I don't think anybody really liked. More recent they had if a defensive player was offsides 2 times in a half he would be unable to play the rest of the half or something complicated like that.

Good quarter for them. Just need to make this a little more respectful to feel a little better going into the next game. Another score or two could go a long way to building confidence.

I could have sworn I remember the bonus yardage rule being applied in Arena Football 2 when I started going to Shock games. Maybe that was something of a recent move? Not sure. Might have to ask Tim that question on AFL Tonight's Q&A.

Unfortunately all they can really do at this point. At least they've had some fairly nice plays and drives ending in touchdowns.

Ari Wolfe and Sherdrick Bonner are clearly bored if they're praising Arizona. "Should have been the 5-time champ."
I don't care who you are. Arizona's dominance is *not* good for the AFL. The IFL knows this with the Sioux Falls Storm, hence they put in the "Sioux Falls Rule" where you can only have 7 players with 3 or more years of experience in the indoor/arena game.

Might make some sense if they would "test out" some rule changes in the af2 to consider for the AFL. Sorta like what the MLB has tried with the minor league like trying out a pitching clock or time limit in between pitches.
