Spokane Empire DB Lorenzo White Jr. has been named Vidswap.com's Special Teams Player of the Week for Week 14.
White Jr. (6'0', 185 lbs) made a tremendous special teams play for the Empire in the closing seconds of the first half against his former team, the Tri-Cities Fever. With 0:07 left in the first half, White Jr. blocked a 33-yard field goal attempt by Daniel Zeidman. The ball bounced down to the Fever 2-yard line where he scooped up the football and scored a touchdown to put the Empire out 39-9 over their in-state rival. He also made contributions on defense by assisting on 3 tackles.
A second-year IFL veteran out of Central Michigan, White Jr. is the son of former Houston Oilers RB Lorenzo White. He joined Spokane this past fall after playing the 2015 season as a member of the Tri-Cities Fever. This season, he's participated in 7 games for the Empire, recording 16.5 total tackles, 1 interception, and 1 pass breakup.
White Jr's award marks the first IFL Special Teams Player of the Week award in Empire team history.
Honorable mentions for Special Teams Player of the Week include K Nicholas Belcher (Cedar Rapids), K Spencer Groner (Colorado), DB/KR Rashard Smith (Colorado), and K Justin Syrovatka (Sioux Falls).
The other IFL Week 14 winners include:
Offensive Player of the Week - RB Tyler Williams, Wichita Falls Nighthawks
Defensive Player of the Week - LB Nikolas Sierra, Cedar Rapids Titans
