As for the game tonight: Austin's stats are great, but the Steel's defense has to figure out how to defend. It's been their Achilles heel all season. Shane has three quality receivers to throw to in Howard, Gilson and Perry. I think he's played well tonight. The defense is not getting any pressure on Davila.

another onside kick try. not sure why James keeps calling for that. I saw on Twitter he went for 4 consecutive. I guess I can understand why, since the Steel's defense isn't up to snuff. He figures they have a better chance to win by onside kicking than to trust the defense in holding Arizona. I understand that. It does not mean I like that decision. If you don't trust your defense, why give the Rattlers good field position by onside kicking that frequently? it seems like they would have better success on a kickoff off the net or a bar ball.

Well generally, defending 1st and goal tends to be easier because much less area you have to defend and the receivers to work with rather than more of a "full field" to work with. Especially with the man to man coverage rules and a receiver in motion. Of course that means you should almost always onside kick it... which I can understand why and something Adam is behind doing. But from a fan and entertain standpoint, I'm glad no one has really adopted that practice yet.

I don't see why you give them a free potential ride into the endzone to score quicker. But that's just me. I'd rather kick it off and hope for a turnover.

in all, i thought we played pretty decent. the turnovers on downs really hurt. no actual turnovers and penalties have been cleaned up over the past couple of weeks.

Ha, sorry, the stripes on the balls I mean. The ones I saw seemed to be green at least. Any reason for it at all if so?

Pointing out their errors is probably why the Steel does not like me all that much! They have deleted their tweet, but I got a screen grab!

Yeah, not saying all of that is definite and given fact, but I tend to agree that it is easier to defend and that offense can struggle more with the more condense space. Strategically I think it does make sense to onside a lot, given an off chance you might actually recover the kick too. But again, as a fan and for entertainment's sake, I'm glad teams haven't. I mean a game full of possessions starting around the 10-15 yard line with no returns with just a recovery every now and again? Yeah, wouldn't want to watch that so much.

Ha, sorry, the stripes on the balls I mean. The ones I saw seemed to be green at least. Any reason for it at all if so? I am not sure. I did not hear anything about it. It's been discussed on the AFL Tonight Podcast & ArenaFan boards. Basically the league ran out of new footballs, so they've been going through the inventory of old footballs until the new Spalding balls with Butera's signature are produced. So, you might see non-traditional AFL footballs, Military Appreciation themed footballs (green stripe), Breast Cancer Awareness footballs (pink), etc.
