Spokane Empire DB Robert Brown has been named Vidswap.com's Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16.
Brown (5'10'', 175 lbs) was a key contributor in Spokane's 51-41 victory over the Billings Wolves. He lead all Empire defenders with 10.0 total tackles and made two critical interceptions off of Wolves QB Cory Murphy in the 2nd half. His first interception came in the 3rd quarter, picking off a Murphy pass in the end zone and returning the ball 24-yards to the Spokane 22-yard line. 4 plays later, the Empire would score, taking a 30-27 lead. On the ensuing drive, Brown would intercept Murphy again, this time returning the pass 41 yards to the Billings 11-yard line. In total, he returned 2 interceptions for 65 yards.
His contributions on defense set up great field position for the Empire, which won the Intense Conference title and the rights to host the Intense Conference Championship in July. The 3rd year defensive back out of Union College is having quite the season for the expansion Spokane Empire. Brown currently ranks 2nd on the team with 76.5 total tackles and he leads the team with 6 INTs and 9 pass breakups.
It's been a great two weeks for the Brown family; Robert's twin brother, RB Rob Brown of the Tri-Cities Fever. Last week, Rob Brown took home Week 17 Special Teams Player of the week.
Honorable mentions for Defensive Player of the Week for Week 16 include DB Michael Green (Billings), DL Edward Mosley (Cedar Rapids), LB Tyler Knight (Sioux Falls) and DB Kenny Veal (Wichita Falls).
The other IFL Week 16 winners include:
Offensive Player of the Week - WR/RB Korey Williams, Sioux Falls Storm
Special Teams Player of the Week - WR/KR Tyler Williams, Wichita Falls Nighthawks
This week, the Empire make their first trip to Nebraska to take on the Danger at Eihusen Arena, Grand Island, NE. Kickoff is at 5 p.m. PST. You can catch the action locally on the radio on 700 ESPN AM or online at 700ESPN.com. The game will be broadcast online at IFL Live TV (paid subscription).
