The Spokane Chiefs have announced changes to their social media usernames, specifically in regard to their Twitter account.
The Chiefs had initially gone with "@chiefshockey" as their Twitter username since they created their social media account. On Tuesday, the team announced the account name has transitioned to "@spokanechiefs".
Josh Grubich, the Chiefs' Director of Promotions, stated in the team's release, “We’re excited to acquire the @spokanechiefs username to create more consistency in our social media presence. Twitter was helpful in the process, instantly transferring our follows, followers and content to the new username.”
The process is different than what fans had to do for the Spokane Empire. The Empire, whose original account was @spokaneshock, acquired @spokaneempire, but made it a separate account and forced its followers to follow the new account. The Chiefs acquisition of @spokanechiefs automatically transferred all tweets, followers, and favorites to the new account.
For a more consistent Username across all social media platforms, the Facebook and Instagram accounts have both been changed to fall in line with the Twitter change. You can now find the Chiefs on Facebook at Facebook.com/spokanechiefs and on Instagram at instagram.com/spokanechiefs. Like Twitter, it has automatically transferred all "likes" and followers to the new username.
The changes to the Chiefs' Social Media have been reflected in SCtoC's team index of the WHL, which can be found here.
