Highs of Last Week: The Mariners have slid back into second place in the AL West, after posting a 9-3 record so far in the month of August. Surprisingly, the return of catcher Mike Zunino has added some much needed depth to the team's offense, with first baseman Adam Lind on a tear as well.
Player of the Week: Nelson Cruz is batting .435 in his past seven games, with 10 hits and 2 monstrous home runs. He continues to be a huge presence at the plate, and is looking to hit close to 40 HRs again this season.
Worst Performer of the Week: Leonys Martin has struggled at the plate, batting a paltry .136 in the past week, going 3 for 22 in 6 games. While he was one of the stronger performers in the first half, he has struggled since returning from the DL.
The Week Ahead: The Mariners are on the road through the 18th, finishing the series with Oakland today and facing off against the last place Angels for four games. They return home the 19th-21st to face off against the Milwaukee Brewers.
