The Spokane Empire continue to stockpile talent in preparation for Year 2 in the IFL, announcing the signing of DL Michael Reynolds to the 2017 roster.
Despite his rookie status when it comes to the IFL, Reynolds (6'2'', 240 lbs) is a unique in the sense that this his second attempt at playing a rookie season with the Empire. He was originally signed by Spokane on September 22, 2015, but did not report to the team. Like many arena/indoor players, Reynolds took an opportunity to play for the inaugural Major League Football last spring. Unfortunately, MLFB did not take off and it ultimately folded. Despite his status in playing for another league, Spokane retained the rights to Reynolds.
“Michael is a natural pass rusher with great athleticism,” said Head Coach Adam Shackleford in the team's press release. “In college showed he can be a versatile stand-up outside linebacker but also can contribute in stopping the run. We’re looking forward to having him in our 2017 training camp.”
A native of Wichita, Kansas, Reynolds played his entire collegiate career as a member of the Kansas Jayhawks from 2011-2014, playing in a total of 47 games. In his junior season, he tallied 37 total tackles and 6.5 sacks, which led all Jayhawk defenders and ranked 6th overall in the Big 12. In his senior season, Reynolds ranked 4th in the nation and 1st in the Big 12 Conference with 5 forced fumbles. He led the Jayhawks with 14.5 tackles for loss and 7 sacks, and was ranked 6th in total tackles (45). Overall, he recorded 97 total tackles (28.5 tackles for loss), 7 forced fumbles, and 14.5 total sacks.
Reynolds was also a rookie mini-camp participant of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2015.
