The Spokane Empire continued its week of signing rookie free agents, adding offensive lineman Sedrick Flowers to its 2017 roster.
Flowers (6'2'', 326 lbs) was a member of the University of Texas Longhorns from 2011-2015. He played in 43 games, starting 25 of them as the Longhorns' left guard. In his junior and senior seasons, he was part of the success in the Longhorns' running game, including the team's 18th ranked rushing attack in the nation during 2015. In his senior season, he was named to the 2015 preseason watch list for the Rotary Lombardi Award and a second-team Academic All-Big 12 selection. He was also a 2-time member of the Big 12's Commissioner's Roll. In 4 of his 5 seasons, the Longhorns made bowl appearances in the Holiday Bowl, back-to-back Alamo Bowls, and the Texas Bowl. The Longhorns would go 2-2 in those bowls, including wins in the 2011 Holiday Bowl and the 2012 Alamo Bowl.
Prior to his collegiate career, Flowers played high school football North Shore Senior High School in Houston, Texas. He played in the 2011 U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He received national praise, making ESPNU's Top 150 national prospects. ESPNU ranked him as the 93rd best overall prospect and the 6th best offensive lineman in his graduating class.
“Sedrick is a versatile offensive lineman that competed against some of the best talent in the country during his collegiate career,” said Head Coach Adam Shackleford in the Empire's press release. “Not only is he a great player, but he is a high football IQ type guy. We’re looking forward to seeing him in training camp.”
