The Spokane Empire continue to fill out their offensive line in preparation for the 2017 season, signing rookie OL Darren Pinnock.
The signing of Pinnock (6'5'', 345 lbs) was first reported by his alma mater, Morgan State University, on Tuesday. One day later, the Empire made the official announcement that Pinnock has been signed to the 2017 roster.
In 2014, he was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Lineman of the Year, contributing to the Bears' 7-6 record, the first winning season for Morgan State since 2009. He played left tackle on an offensive line known as the "Trench Mob", which resulted in the MEAC's 2nd ranked rushing attack, 26th overall in the FCS, averaging 208.5 rush yards/game. On the season, MSU finished with 2,711 rushing yards in total. He was twice named MEAC Player of the Week and was one of 9 players from the MEAC named to the BOXTOROW All-America Team as well as the SBN Sports Black College All-American Team
A native out of Miami, FL, Pinnock played high school football at Miami-Palmetto High School before attending Morgan State.
“Darren is a skilled offensive lineman with great footwork and quickness,” said Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford in the team's press release. “He has the athletic ability to play multiple positions on the offensive line. We’re looking forward to seeing him compete in training camp.”
