Another piece of the 2016 Intense Conference Championship team is returning for 2017 as DB Tyree Robinson has re-signed with the Spokane Empire.
Robinson (5'11'', 200 lbs) returns for his second season as a member of the Empire, and his third season overall in the IFL. He was part of a Spokane defensive backfield that limited opponents to 171.9 passing yards/game in 2016, which fourth overall in the league. He finished 4th on the Empire in total tackles (80) and solo tackles (63), 2nd with 6 interceptions, and 2nd with 10 pass breakups. Robinson also recorded 1 forced fumble, 2 fumble recoveries.
“Tyree is the most physical defensive player in our league and possesses a unique ability to cover the pass and play the run equally,” Empire Head Coach Adam Shackleford said in the team's press release. “He is he a big part of our success on defense, contributes on specials teams, and brings a number of intangibles on and off the field that truly make him a complete player.”
Robinson was one of several players, including LB Nick Haag, DBs Robert Brown and Demetruce McNeal, and WRs Justin Helwege and Carl Sims, that joined the Empire in 2016 after spending the 2015 campaign with the Cedar Rapids Titans. In his lone season with the Titans, Robinson was 3rd on the team with 59.0 total tackles (47 solo), 2 interceptions, and 5 pass breakups.
Prior to his professional indoor football career, Robinson played college football at Western Kentucky University. He played in 47 total games through 4 years as a member of the Hilltoppers, recording 168 total tackles, 4 interceptions, and a forced fumble.
