Days after the signing of WR DeJuan Miller to its 2017 Roster, the Spokane Empire continues to wrangle in members of the now dormant Tri-Cities Fever with the signing of RB Rob Brown.
Brown (5'9'', 185 lbs) joins Spokane for his second season in the IFL. In his rookie season with the Fever, Brown played in 12 games, ranking second on the team with 271 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns. He also made an impact in the Fever's inconsistent passing game, making 43 receptions for 314 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brown was also the Fever's leading kick returner, bringing back 34 kickoffs for 688 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Adam Shackleford was nothing but positive in discussing Brown in the team's press release. “Rob Brown is a very high-character young man and one of the hardest workers I have been around. His ability out of the backfield was obvious when we faced him while he was in Tri-Cities. He possesses big play ability no matter where you line him up on the field," he said.
This is Brown's second stint with the Empire, having originally been with the team during Spokane’s training camp last season. He was released in favor of RB Trevor Kennedy, the eventual IFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and ended up signing with Tri-Cities shortly afterward.
Brown is also the identical twin brother of First Team All-IFL DB Robert Brown, who also is a member of the Spokane Empire.
Prior to his professional career, Rob, like his twin Robert, played his college football career at Union College in Kentucky. He played in 42 games, rushing for 2,710 yards and 23 rushing touchdowns. Just like in his IFL career, he provided versatility as a pass catcher by hauling in 72 passes for 823 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was also was the Bulldogs' primary kick returner, returning 44 kicks for 982 yards and 1 touchdown.
Brown's outstanding play earned an Honorable First Team All-American mention in 2011, and First Team All-American Honors in 2012. After graduating from Union, Brown broke into the world of indoor football as a member of PIFL's Alabama Hammers in 2015.
