SPOKANE, WA - Veteran kicker Kyle Brotzman is back with the Spokane Empire - at least temporally.
On Friday afternoon, the Spokane Empire announced the signing of Brotzman to the active roster. The Empire will be without primary kicker Craig Peterson for Monday night's game against the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles. Peterson reportedly will miss the game due to "a previously scheduled kicking camp." Because of this, the Empire released Peterson to make room for Brotzman.
This is the second stint for Brotzman (5'10'', 190 lbs) as a member of the Empire. Last season, he was brought in during Spokane's Week 8 game against the Colorado Crush when Brady Beeson suffered a foot injury. In Spokane's historic 97-72 win, Brotzman converted 13 out of 14 extra points, tying an IFL single game record for most extra points in one game.
Fans of arena/indoor football in the Salt Lake area should be familiar with Brotzman, who played two and a half seasons with the AFL's Utah Blaze from 2011-2013. During his time with the Blaze, he was 3 of 7 on field goals and he converted 232 of 276 extra point attempts. He converted a career high 124 extra points converted in 2012.
Brotzman is well known for his collegiate career at Boise State University. In his 4-year career with the Broncos, Brotzman earned All-WAC honors in 2007 and was named the Broncos' co-Special Teams Player of the year in 2008. He's currently Boise State's all-time scoring placekicker with 439 points, including an incredible streak of converting 118 consecutive extra points.

In what was a busy day for the Empire on the transaction wire, the team also announced the addition of DB Toney Hurd Jr. to the active roster.
Hurd (5'9'', 180) played his entire collegiate career at Texas A&M. In 51 games with the Aggies, Hurd notched 152 total tackles (94 solo), 2.0 sacks and 2 interceptions. In three of his four seasons, he was part of the Texas A&M teams that became a staple as one of college football's Top 25 teams in the country. He was part of the Texas A&M teams that won the Meineke Car Care Bowl in 2011, the Cotton Bowl in 2012, and the Chick-fil-A bowl in 2013. During the 2013 Chick-fil-A Bowl, he picked off Duke QB Anthony Boone for a 55 yard return, resulting in a touchdown.
Most recently, Hurd spent some time with the NFL's Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Empire take on the Screaming Eagles at the Maverik Center in West Valley City, UT on Monday night. Kickoff is scheduled at 6 p.m. PST. You can catch the action locally on the radio on 700 ESPN AM, 105.3 FM, or online at 700ESPN.com. The game will be broadcast on the IFL's Official YouTube account.
