GREEN BAY, WI - The Iowa Barnstormers scored 28 straight points during a 22-minute span of the second and third quarters, and held on to steal a 49-30 win over the Green Bay Blizzard.
Down 14-7 just over a minute gone in the second quarter, the Barnstormers pulled even on a one-yard run from Rasheed Williams, then took the lead nearly five minutes later when Travis Partridge found Brady Roland 16 yards for the score. Javicz Jones extended the Barnstormers lead to 27-14 with 38 seconds left in the half.
Following a safety, Iowa scored again on a three-yard run from Partridge to go up 35-14.
The Blizzard scored on a pair of runs from Matt Behrendt and Darryl Ragsdale, and added a safety to pull to within 35-30 with 10:17 left in the fourth quarter. The rally would not be enough, as the Barnstormers scored twice late in the last 3:33 to seal the win.
Partridge completed nine of 21 passes for 130 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for a pair of touchdowns. Williams also added two rushing touchdowns. Roland led all receivers with four catches for 76 yards and a touchdown, and Ruan Balentine added three receptions for 43 yards and a score. Jones, who had eight tackles, and Matt Goldsmith each recorded an interception. Vincent Taylor had eight tackles, and Matt Crawford had two sacks.
Behrendt completed just 33 percent of his passes, for 119 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions. He rushed 15 times for 49 yards and a touchdown. Marquel Willis tallied a pair of catches for 61 yards and a score. Karl Michelson recorded eight tackles and two sacks for the Barnstormers, and Nmesoma Okafor added two sacks of his own.
The Barnstormers (2-1) will travel to Sioux Falls to face the Storm (3-0) on March 20 for a 4:05 p.m. (PT) kickoff. The Blizzard (1-2) will be in Cedar Rapids to battle the Titans (0-3) on March 19 at 1:05 p.m. (PT). Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
