Just wondering if anyone else has noticed that the Crush are 0-3 and every week they have produced a Player of the Week for the IFL. Week 1 was an Offensive Player of the week, week 2 was defensive, and last week was Special Teams. Might be time to make some changes that force guys to step up. Would be interested to hear what everyone else thinks of two position groups? First on the offensive side of the ball the skilled positions have been struggling with QB being the biggest glaring hole to me. On the defensive side of the ball the defensive backs are really struggling and cannot play man-to-man defense to save their lives. I lost count of how many TDs they have given up to receivers that were WIDE OPEN?
Just my 2 cents, wanted to hear what you all thought.

I was wondering where the heck Goldrich was last game. That would be a start.

Based on casual following of the Crush?
Offense - QB is the glaring issue right now. I thought Sean Goldrich looked promising in the first game, but that second game he looked like he took a step backwards. I can't say I know much about Aaron Aiken; even when he was a backup in Spokane last year, he didn't see much of the field.
I think they miss Damien Fleming more than they expected. Brandon Mitchell was doing good before he suffered that season ending injury last year in.... Game 2, I think?
As for the rest of the skill positions, I think they're talented at wide receiver. They can't be missing Demarius Washington THAT much, can they? I also think Ford is a capable RB.... but none of that really matters if the QBs aren't good enough.
Defense - I'm going based off of two I watched games (I didn't watch the Arizona one) and looking at the stats from last year. The eye test says the defense looks worse than last year. They're not getting enough pressure and the defensive backs are just getting burned. On top of that, Zero interceptions by the DBs and only 2 sacks on the season? That's not good enough.
I'm basing it off of two half games I've seen versus two full games and just highlights that I saw on YouTube last year. I could be totally wrong with what I see.

I was wondering where the heck Goldrich was last game. That would be a start. Remember, he was injured the week prior. I think it was his shoulder so they probably held him out a week. Not sure where he stands for this week, but he is on the active roster.

The offense runs through the QB. I don't think that they are missing D. Wash., but I do think that they are missing some solid QB play. I also think that you need a QB in this league that is versatile and can throw as good as he can run. And, bigger than that, the coach has to allow the plays to happen down the field. You are not going to get anywhere if all your plays are called to happen within 10 yards of the line of scrimmage. At some point, you need to start taking some shots down field and forcing the DBs to step back from the line. Doing this will allow the run game to open up some and will allow the QB to be a runner as well.
On the defensive side of the ball, it all starts up front. If you aren't pressuring the QB then he has more of a chance to pick the horrible defensive backfield apart. I have watched all 3 games (obviously) and I am not impressed with what I have seen on the defensive side of the ball at all. They are not playing with any heart and they are allowing too many yards and WAY too many easy catches. If they want to even stand a chance of beating Spokane tonight it is going to have to start with the defense. If they cannot stop Dowdell and Kennedy then it is going to be a very long night and will put them in a deep hole for the rest of the season. I hate to say that a game this early in the season is a must win, but this one is.

This might be a dumb question, but a fair one for you afrats. Do you think the Crush got off to a late start this past year in free agency because of the team's future being cloudy? They didn't announce that FANchise purchased the team until October. Maybe it didn't have an impact, but I feel like they got off to a late start in the free agent market.

I believe that is 90% of their issue this year.

i had not noticed that the Crush had three players of the week. i know they have not won a game, but i think it says a lot about this league when something like that can occur.
despite the record, i think they will gain some fandom when fans start calling plays. i do worry that the arena is too small for what is intended to be accomplished.

Two points: 1) He meant that the opposing teams that Colorado face has produced Players of the week. Week 2 was Verlon Reed (SLC), Week 3 was Derek Bernard (NEB), and last week it was Jamal Miles for Arizona. That trend is likely to continue based on Charles Dowdell and Devonn Brown's performances last night. 2) I don't think the arena size will be an issue. That's one of the distinguishing features about the IFL - they're more flexible with smaller arena venues. Colorado may have a small arena by the amount of available seats, And if you ask me, based on what I've seen, Cedar Rapids and Nebraska look much smaller than what Colorado's arena looks like.

Yeah, I don't think that the arena size will be a problem for the Crush. And, I do think you are right that the Crush could create another POTW in Dowdell...especially after they allowed him to throw for 7 TDs.

Any bets on which Nebraska player wins which award this week?

I don't want to think that the Crush lose again. I am hoping that they can get over this hump, and maybe they have a POTW themselves this next week?!?!

As I mentioned in the game recap, Liam Nadler or Josh Gable could win Offensive Player of the Week or Special Teams Player of the Week, respectively for their impacts on the game. I expect both will be honorable mention there.
