3/26/17 --
GREEN BAY, WI - If not for a missed extra point attempt with 41 seconds left, the Green Bay Blizzard might have sent the game into overtime.
However, the kick failed and the Arizona Rattlers escaped Wisconsin with a 30-29 win in week 6.
The Blizzard, down by a touchdown after Arizona quarterback Darron Thomas' three-yard run, came back on a three-yard pass from quarterback Matt Behrendt to wide receiver Andre McDonald. Kicker Zeke Arevalo was then up to try to tie it up and was unable to convert.
There were four ties in the game, including at 16-16 early in the third quarter after Arevalo's 45-yard field goal. The Rattlers then went up 23-16 on a seven yard pass from Thomas to wide receiver Anthony Amos. The Blizzard struck back with 3:30 left in the third on Berhrent's four-yard strike to wide receiver Marquel Willis. The game was knotted at 23-23 heading into the final quarter.
The Rattlers dominated total offense, 172 yards to 109 yards, with the rushing tally (87 yards to minus-eight) being a major chunk of that. Each teams' defense intercepted the opposing quarterback a single time.
Thomas was eight of 16 for 85 yards, a touchdown and a pick. He ran 10 times for 37 yards and another score. Ketrich Harmon had 13 rushes for 50 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Jamal Miles had four grabs for 44 yards. Adam Souder led the Rattlers with nine tackles. Arkeith Brown had an interception and Chris McCallistter recorded a sack.
Behrendt was 10 of 23 for 117 yards, three touchdowns and an interception Tacoi Sumler scored a touchdown on the ground. Willis led the Blizzard with five catches for 72 yards and two touchdowns. Manny Asprilla and Karl Mickelson each had six tackles for Green Bay, and Derek Brim recorded an interception.
The Rattlers (2-2) will host the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (4-1) on April 1 at 5 p.m. (PT). The Blizzard (2-2) will be at home against the Cedar Rapids Titans (0-5) on April 1 for a 5:05 p.m. (PT) kickoff. Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
