LOVELAND, CO - The Nebraska Danger scored 16 straight points in the fourth quarter to fend off the Screaming Eagles Saturday night, 49-30.
Already ahead 33-24 entering the final quarter, the Danger opened the quarter with a 22-yard field goal from Nicholas Giaffoglione. The then scored on a pair of touchdown runs from Patrick McCain to go up 49-24.
The Screaming Eagles took an 18-13 lead with two minutes left in the second quarter when James Calhoun intercepted McCain and returned it 28 yards into the end zone. The Danger recaptured the lead 11 seconds later on Rob Brown's six-yard run. Nebraska would never trail again.
McCain opened the scoring on a three-yard run 9:48 into the game.
The Danger outgained the Screaming Eagles in total yards, 230 to 180. They had a 57 percent success rate on third down. The teams combined for 15 penalties for 108 yards.
In addition to his three rushing touchdowns, McCain completed seven of 15 passes for 118 yards and three touchdowns with an interception. Brown had 43 yards on 12 carries and a touchdown. Eric Thomas, Dimitri Stimphil and Jarred Haggins each had two receptions, for 49, 36 and 25 yards, respectively. Each also caught a touchdown. Trey Wafford had 7.5 total tackles and Eze Obiora tallied 3.5 sacks for the Danger.
Verlon Reed went 13 of 23 for 156 yards, two touchdowns and one interception. He also ran for 25 yards and a score. Jesse Scroggins came in to finish the game and completed four of eight passes for 50 yards and a touchdown. Marshall had three catches for 54 yards and a touchdown, and Devin Mahina added three catches for 47 yards and a score. Devon Price hauled in five passes for 38 yards and a score, while Juwan Dotson added four catches for 42 yards. Calhoun led the Screaming Eagles' defense with five total tackles and an interception.
The Danger (5-4) will host the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-8) on April 28 at 5:05 p.m. The Screaming Eagles (1-7) will visit the Spokane Empire (6-2) on April 30 for a 3 p.m. kickoff.
