former player/assistant coach Clay Harrell has been signed as the Portland Thunder's offensive and defensive line coach, the team announced today.

“Clay brings invaluable experience to our staff, both as a player and a coach,” said Head Coach Matthew Sauk. “With our young roster, it’s important that we have coaches who excel at teaching. Clay has played and coached both sides of the line during his AFL career. I’m excited to have him developing our players.”
Harrell retired as a player this offseason after playing for the Utah Blaze and Cleveland Gladiators in 2013. He started every game at fullback for the Spokane Shock during the 2010 and 2011 seasons before joining the team as an assistant coach in 2012. Harrell’s tenure in Spokane included a victory in ArenaBowl XXIII in 2010, when he played under current Portland Head Coach and former Shock Offensive Coordinator Matthew Sauk.
