DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers had no problems in picking up their ninth straight victory, as they dominated the Green Bay Blizzard, 64-12, tonight.
With the loss, the Blizzard fell for the tenth straight game after starting the season 2-2
The Barnstormers broke out of the gate early, scoring on a pair of Travis Partridge passes to Lucas Hefty of 34 and six yards, respectively, The Blizzard responded late in the opening quarter with their lone touchdown of the game, on an 11-yard run from Jasen Oden Jr. After Brady Roland's 29-yard pass from Partridge, the Blizzard narrowed Iowa's lead to 20-10 on Jared Fohrman's 27-yard field goal.
Iowa would go on to score 37 straight points. Aside from a safety at the one-minute warning of the fourth quarter, Green Bay would not have scored since the 11:42 point of the second quarter.
The Blizzard were starting a new quarterback, Greg McGee, after Matt Behrendt having been put on injured reserve earlier in the week.
The Barnstormers more than tripled the Blizzard in total offense, 324 to 103 yards. Iowa had 116 yards rushing and 208 passing. Accepted penalties were not a huge factor in the game, The Blizzard had seven penalties for 34 yards, while the Barnstormers were flagged four times for 45 yards.
Partridge, the week 14 IFL Offensive Player of the Week, completed 13/16 passes for 213 yards and five touchdowns. He also ran eight times for 50 yards and a touchdown. Keshaudas Spence rushed nine times for 61 yards with two trips to the end zone, and caught a pass for 11 yards. Roland finished with five grabs for 92 yards and three touchdowns. Ryan Balentine, who scored on a rushing touchdown, had four catches for 68 yards. Hefty caught three passes for 42 yards and two scores. Javicz Jones is making a case for himself as a potential Defensive Player of the Year candidate, with 13.5 total tackles. Ra'Shawde Myers had three sacks.
McGhee went 12 of 30 for 96 yards. He ran 10 times for 46 yards. Oden had four carries for 18 yards and a score. Oden also caught five passes for 30 yards, while Jack Bramswig grabbed a pair of passes for 22 yards. Dorian Buford tallied three passes for 20 yards. Jack Sherlock led Green Bay with 5.5 total tackles.
The Barnstormers (11-2) will visit the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles (3-9 heading into week 15) on June 2 at 6 p.m. The Blizzard (2-12) will host the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (9-3 heading into week 15) on June 3 at 5:05 p.m. All times are pacific time.
