6/28/17 --
The Indoor Football League has announced its selections for 2017 All-IFL First and Second teams, and two Salt Lake Screaming Eagles' players have been earned a spot on the lists.
Defensive back James Calhoun was named to the First Team and wide receiver Devin Mahina was named to the Second Team.
Calhoun led the IFL with nine interceptions; six of which he returned for touchdowns, also a league high. The next highest only had two interceptions returned for touchdowns. In Salt Lake's week 11 loss to the Spokane Empire, he picked off three passes, returning all three for touchdowns. Calhoun also returned 14 kickoffs for an average of 19.8 yards and a touchdown. His 39.5 tackles ranked third on the team and he added six pass break ups.
He is a 5'11" 195-lb. defensive back who played for Riverside City College in Riverside, California. He was named the IFL Defensive Player of the Week twice this season; once for that week 11 performance, and again in week 15 in his team's 64-27 win over the Cedar Rapids Titans.
Mahina led the Screaming Eagles with 75 receptions for 810 yards and 18 touchdowns. He also led the team in scoring with 110 points. His 50.6 receiving yards per game was good for fifth in the IFL this season, and he was third in receptions and fourth in overall receiving yards. A 6'6" receiver/tight end from BYU, Mahina was one of two Salt Lake offensive players to appear in all 16 games this season.
SCtoC was fortunate to have exclusive Q&A's with both players. You can find both player surveys here for Calhoun and here for Mahina.
