Greetings all! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving, and now it is time for my random thoughts and stuff on Week 12 of the NFL season.
Thoughts on Thanksgiving games
-Case Keenum and the Vikings are the best team in the NFC as of this week. They are SB contenders and anyone who tells you otherwise is missing the boat.
-The Cowboys are terrible offensively right now. Sadly this isn't news and it doesn't look like it is going to get fixed. Will the coaching staff get fired? I honestly don't know and I wish I did. #FireGoodell
-The Tinys played the Redskins close but shrunk.
How bout those Rams?
The Rams beat one of the other great teams in the NFC in a true winning fashion. The Rams are still contenders and I think they will beat the Eagles when that match up comes around.
Playing down to level of competition
So the Redskins, Seahawks, and Steelers all played mediocre to bad against terrible teams, each for different reasons. The Redskins reason is simple division rivalry. The Seahawks answer is more complicated. They play down to the level of their competition I think, because they automatically think they can beat a team like the 49ers. However in the NFL you can't do that unlike you can, say at USC. The Steelers reason is less complicated. They play down to their level of competition because they aren't actually as good as everyone thinks they are. Their offense is run the ball, and chuck it to AB and hope he makes a crazy catch to bail them out. Sorry, that won't work against the Pats. Or even the Jags, oh wait.
The Lolcows are still funny
Paxton Lynch injured his ankle on Sunday. That isn't funny. What is funny is that Trevor Siemian came into the game, nearly led a comeback, and will start on Sunday. All of this after Siemian was benched for Osweiler who was benched for Lynch. Siemian managed to go from starter to third stringer to backup to starter all in the same season.
Not only did the QB situation happen on Sunday but Aqib Talib and Michael Crabtree got in a fight which led to both of them being suspended for the next 2 games. Congrats Mr. Lolcow! Your comments on your team being soft, ultimately led to a fight and one of your star players being suspended for multiple games. Enjoy your rebuild Broncos fans!
The Texans.... ugh.
Never forget that Tom Savage was supposed to start over Deshaun Watson FOR THE ENTIRE SEASON. This is important because whenever you see Tom Savage play, know that Bill O'Brien actively took 1st team training camp and preseason reps from Watson for Savage. Bill O'Brien actually thought that Savage was going to be better that Watson. Also know that whenever you hear "O'Brien has to change his offense for Savage" that is false. O'Brien had to change his offense for Watson, because remember O'Brien's offense was originally built for Tom Brady, which is former Pats QBs Hoyer and Mallett were ever on the roster. Savage was then meant to fill the role that nobody outside of Brady has done well. Run O'Brien's offense.
With this all in mind, I say Bill O'Brien should be fired as the Head Coach of Houston Texans. Admittedly there are injuries. Lots and lots of injuries. However, the offense's ineptitude for this season and in seasons past is on O'Brien. The Texans also need a coach that will properly use Watson. I think Mike Shula would make a great fit for the Texans being that he has helped Cam Newton become one of the NFL's top QBs.
I legitimately thought that the Texans had a shot to make the playoffs even with their injuries and Savage not being good. I no longer embraced the tank. However I have decided to re-embrace the tank and it is wonderful.
Other thoughts:
-Journeyman pseudo-starters Ryan Fitzpatrick and Josh McCown both let their teams down at the worst possible time as we should expect, even though we sometimes think otherwise.
-The Colts can't keep a second half lead and it is kind of astounding.
-What is up with the Chiefs? From best to team in the AFC to some questioning whether they can make the playoffs? Who would have thought that to start the season. I sure didn't.
-The Eagles are good, but blowing out bad teams doesn't prove anything to me. Beating the Rams and Seahawks will.
-The Patriots are still the best team in the AFC, though I do wonder what will happen to them in the playoffs.
-Congrats to Phil Dawson for kicking his longest FG ever in the NFL at the age of 42! Bird is indeed the word.
THE ROAD TO 0-16
Team that currently doesn't have a win. I will do this segment until every team has a win.
Team that currently doesn't have a win:
Cleveland Browns
I still trust the process and believe that the Browns will turn things around. I did realize this week that I think the Browns should stick with Kizer long term as I think you can build the franchise around him.
So with all of that said Week 12 is officially done with. I eagerly anticipate Week 13 and hope to see ya again next week. This is spiderfan out.
