FINAL - Barnstormers 41, Danger 25
4/14/18 --
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Barnstormers held the Nebraska Danger scoreless in the second half, pulling away for a 41-25 win in week 8 of the Indoor Football League season tonight at Wells Fargo Arena.
With the win, the Barnstormers improved to 4-2, while the Danger fell to 4-3. The Barnstormers got some payback after the Danger had defeated them, 43=32, at Grand Island, Nebraska on March 30.
The Barnstormers wasted no time getting on the board, with Grant Rohach hitting Brady Roland for a 47-yard touchdown on the game's first play. The Danger came right back. Jesse Scroggins found Gregory Dent for seven yards. Roland's three-yard run with 7:55 left in the opening quarter put Iowa up 12-7. Scroggins hit Eric Thomas on a four-yard touchdown pass, and the Danger were up 14-12 at the end of the first quarter.
Cody Barber nailed a 26-yard field goal for the Barnstormers, followed by Brad Hatfield's 25-yarder for the Danger. Iowa took an 18-17 lead on Barber's 21-yard field goal with 3:21 left in the first half. Scroggins then found Thomas for a 31-yard touchdown a minute later. Rohach's eight-yard run made the score 25-24 in favor of the Danger. Following an interception of Scroggins by the Barnstormers' Bryce Enyard, Barber tried to give Iowa the lead, but his kick was wide to the left. The interception by Enyard was his fifth on the season.
Barber's 23-yard field goal gave the Barnstormers the 27-25 with 5:42 remaining in the third quarter. Robert Haynes recovered a Kendall Doe fumble to give Iowa the ball back.
Jonathan Duarte's touchdown catch off a topped pass in the end zone on fourth-and-two was good for six yards and put the Barnstormers up 34-25 at the 14:40 mark of the final quarter. Hatfield's 21-yard attempt, which could have drawn the Danger to within six points, went just wide right, and the Barnstormers had the ball again with the nine-point lead. They embarked on a drive to eat up 9:15 off the clock, capped by Rohach's 19-yard strike to Ryan Balentine with 22 seconds to go, giving Iowa the 41-25 lead.
Rocky Hayes intercepted Scroggins to seal the win for Iowa.
Rohach, replacing Drew Powell at quarterback for the Barnstormers, earned his first win as a starter in the IFL. Powell was scheduled to try out for a Canadian Football League team today.

Nebraska was penalized 10 times for 73 yards, while Iowa was flagged 7 times for 74 yards. Nebraska turned the ball over three times (two interceptions and a fumble). Iowa played turnover free. Neither team surrendered a sack in the game.
