I have taken a little time off off this site and twitter over the past week or so, and I know a few people were wondering why.
Over the time I have been online, I have met a lot of people I would not have otherwise had a chance to meet many people from various parts of the world. I have friends online from Australia, France and even in my hometown of Portland. My oldest sister takes pride that she can separate the real world and the online world. She said it allows her to grow thicker skin when it comes to lies and false accusations she finds onlin. I apparently failed to separate those because I was recently hurt by the lies of someone online whom I had considered a friend.
In fact this person had acted like a friend to my family and friends and we had chatted about many, many things. I am going to be vague here because I do not want to give this person any credit at all.
So after three years of friendship and fun conversation I have learned recently that this person had decided to believe a rumor online regarding my family which is simply not true. Not only that but this person spread the rumor. People can be cruel online and I know that. I am not new to being able to understand things like that.
My problem with this is that this person never asked me nor my family about the rumor. They simply believed it without blinking an eye. The only conclusion I can draw is that this person was never truly a friend.
My mistake is that I assumed that they were acting like a true friend when they were not. Maybe it is my fault for being angry for not separating the internet and real life like my sister does. I know that allows her to disregard any lies that may be thrown her way. She is amazing like that
I am trying to learn and not be hurt and I do not want anyone whom I still consider a friend to be insulted when I talk about separating real life and the internet. I still value the opportunity to share fun and some really great conversation. That is why I really like the way which this site has been put together here. We have some great people.
I hope it all stays that way.
Anyway I just wanted you all to know. Thank you.
