The 2019 Free Agency Season is here everybody! This thread will have my thoughts on the signings (and trades I want to talk about) so with that said here are the signings so far:
Trey Flowers and Danny Amendola to the Lions
Quick thoughts: 2 former Patriots going to the wannabe Patriots? Can't say I'm shocked by these signings. Both are solid players and should be decent contributors for the Lions.
Trent Brown to Raiders
Quick thoughts: The Raiders needed to upgrade their offense line and signing Brown is going to make that a reality. Trust the Gruden, people.
Kwon Alexander to 49ers
Quick thoughts: One of the leaders of the really good and then total garbage Bucs defense is now getting overpaid in San Fran. Considering the crazy amount of cap the 49ers have to spend, I guess it isn't a terrible move, but it isn't one that I think is going to move the needle very much.
Landon Collins to Redskins
Quick thoughts: Can the Redskins secondary get much better at this point? Seriously, maybe Bruce Allen isn't as bad as people in DC say he is.
Malik Jackson to Eagles
Quick thoughts: Considering the Eagles traded Michael Bennett, they needed a replacement and Jackson appears to be that replacement. Considering what Jackson has done in the past, I'd consider it an upgrade.
Nick Foles to Jaguars
Quick thoughts: The Jaguars needed a QB and they got the best one available in years. The dude won a SB and nearly took the Eagles to another one, he isn't going to be overpaid. The fact that Foles isn't getting a fully guaranteed contract and Kirk Cousins did is just gross. Can you say better record? Yes. Can you say more primetime games than the Jags have ever gotten? Yes. The Jaguars are contenders again everybody. Watch out.
Tyrann Mathieu to Chiefs
Quick thoughts: One of the best safeties in football goes to one of the best teams in football. Good decision by the Chiefs of signing him and good decision by The Honey Badger going to the Chiefs.
Za'Darius Smith to Packers, Terrell Suggs to Cardinals, and CJ Mosely to Jets
Quick thoughts: I put them all in a group because my thoughts are universal on all three. The Ravens defense is going to be WAY less talented and WAY less good than before. It is going to be interesting to see how they replace these guys.
Cole Beasley to Bills
Quick thoughts: Beasley wanted big money and he got it from the Bills. Beasley is replaceable by the Cowboys, but there was a part of me that was kinda sad to see him go after playing for the Cowboys all this time. Good luck Cole!
OBJ traded to Browns
Quick thoughts: Believeland has reason to believe that the Browns are going to win the AFC North next year. The Browns have the pieces to make a run, the star QB, the star RB, the star young HC, the good defense, and now the star WR. Wish great stuff for ya Dawg Pound you deserve it. As for the Tinys, their offense now consists of Saquon and Saquon and... Saquon? Yeah, they need draft a good replacement for OBJ. Although, being that the Tinys are arguably the worst franchise in football at this point, I wouldn't be confident that they will.
Le'Veon Bell to Jets
Quick thoughts: About time, considering this move has been rumored for a year now. Considering Bell sit out last year, physically he is behind, thus an injury is more possible, thus bad news for the Jets. I'm sure Bell will be on a lot of New Yorkers fantasy football teams thus Bell jerseys will become common in the NY area, so from a business perspective it is a pretty good move. We'll see how Coach Doom (Adam Gase) incorporates Bell into his offense and locker room.
Earl Thomas to Ravens
Quick thoughts: The Ravens needed a replacement for Eric Weddle and they got it in Earl Thomas. The Ravens defense needs good players and Earl Thomas is a good player. Conspiracy theory time: The Ostriches didn't sign Earl Thomas because they didn't want to deal with tampering allegations, although maybe that would be giving the Ostriches too much credit.
Ha-Ha Clinton Dix to Bears
Quick thoughts: I'll be honest I didn't realize he was a free agent before today. Ha-Ha will be laughing when the Bears beat the Packers this season as he'll know how to read Aaron Rodgers. Good signing by the Bears.
Golden Tate to Tinys
Quick thoughts: After trading OBJ the Tinys needed a new WR and they got a consistent 1,000 yard one in Golden Tate. We'll see what Tate produces with the Tinys this year.
Ryan Fitzpatrick to Dolphins
Quick thoughts: After the Dolphins quasi-salary cap dump of Ryan Tannehill, they needed a quarterback. Who did they get?
As I said during last season the NFL is more fun when Ryan Fitzpatrick is playing well and I have no doubt that there will be games next season where he plays magically and I also have no doubt that there will there will be games he plays tragically, because Fitzpatrick is simultaneously one of the best and worst QBs at the same time. Even so, IMO the Dolphins actually upgraded their QB position, at least for the short term. If the Dolphins draft a QB, I imagine that Fitzpatrick will be a good mentor and who knows maybe Fitzpatrick will become the QB coach down there in Miami.
Randall Cobb to Ostriches
Quick thoughts: After Cole Beasley's aforementioned departure, the Ostriches signed Randall Cobb who for years was GB's top receiver. Apparently, the plan is to use Cobb in various ways which is a good idea, because Cobb is talented and that way he makes some kind of contribution to the squad.
Clay Matthews to Rams
Quick thoughts: The talent on the Rams just gets better and better. Need I say more?
Jared Cook to Saints
Quick thoughts: One of the best TE's in football goes to one of the best teams in football. This is one of the best signings of free agency IMO.
George Iloka to Ostriches
Quick thoughts: The Ostriches filled a need, although I would I have signed Eric Berry instead.
Jordan Howard traded to Eagles
Quick thoughts: I can't believe that the Eagles got a great RB in Jordan Howard for such low draft compensation. That aside, getting a great starting RB that will no doubt make your team better is something that I'd do 100 times out of 100. My hat is tipped to you Eagles.
Robert Quinn to Ostriches
Quick thoughts: The Ostriches acquire a possible replacement for either David Irving or Demarcus Lawrence (if he ends up getting traded, which I see happening at this point) and all I can think is: Why not Ndamukong Suh?
