ANALYSIS
Sioux Falls is looking to make it a clean sweep in Bismarck as they head to North Dakota for the second time in 22 days. In this Battle for the Dakotas - Part II, the Bucks will look to avenge that 52-18 loss in week 4. In that game, the Storm jumped out to a 30 lead early in the second quarter, and led 44-3 at the half, as they ran away with the win. The Bucks scored just one touchdown; a seven yard run from QB Homer Causey with 2:15 left in the fourth quarter. The Storm are reeling after a lackluster performance in Arizona against the Rattlers last week in which they dropped their first game of the season, 58-40. The Rattlers forced four turnovers, including two from typically steady QB Lorenzo Brown, Jr. Sioux Falls was right in the game until late in the third quarter when Arizona rattled off 21 straight points to put the game away. The Bucks have struggled all season. They trailed to the Nebraska by just three at the half last week, 19-16, but the Danger outscored them 31-19 in the second half en route to the 50-35 win. Sioux Falls is will look to get back on track here, while Bismarck is still in search of its first Indoor Football League win.
Brown won't struggle two games in a row, so the Bucks will be in for a bounce-back game from the veteran QB. He is throwing for an IFL fourth-best 137.8 yard per game and has tossed 11 touchdowns. Two of his three interceptions this season came last week. He also has rushed 54 times for 173 yards this season for 10 touchdowns (tied for second in the league). Should Darrian Miller be sidelined for another week, Calen Campbell should serve as a more-than-capable replacement. The rookie appeared in just his second game against the Rattlers and rushed seven times for 33 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a kickoff 56 yards for a score. Brandon Sheperd has emerged as Brown's favorite target, catching 20 passes for 355 yards and five touchdowns (third in the IFL at 71.0 yards per game), while Damian Ford has 16 receptions for 231 yards with a half-dozen trips to the end zone. Six Storm defenders have 20 tackles or more, led by DB Matt McKoy with 29 to go along with a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery. DeAndre Scott has 26 takedowns and a pick, while Tre Dickerson has an interception. Charles Williams, Daelin young and Kanyia Anderson have each recorded sacks. Miles Bergner, who has struggled a bit in the past two games, comes in hitting 39 of 34 extra point attempts and nine of 13 field goal attempts with a league-high long of 54 yards.
The Bucks have largely run a two-quarterback system this season, though Homer Causey has gotten the starting nod the past couple of weeks. He's completing 52.1 percent of his passes for 302 yards with six touchdowns against a single interception. He also has rushed for 12- yards and three touchdowns. John Gibbs, who started the opening game of the season, is completing 44.1 percent of his throws for 328 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. Gibbs averages 24.5 rushing yards and four touchdowns. It's very likely that both see time in this one. . Diantae Thomas will round out the backfield for the Bucks. Bismarck's receiving corps should look familiar to the Storm, as Mike Tatum and Brandynn Clark have come over to the Bucks over the winter and early part of this season. Coming into this game, he holds the IFL all-time record in all-purpose yards at 7,429. He's caught 19 passes this season for 257 yards and three touchdowns. Clark has eight catches for 164 yards and a pair of scores. The group is rounded out by Frederick Abraham's 10 receptions for 94 yards and two touchdowns. Antwan Smith's 20 tackles, interception and blocked kick lead the Bucks defense. Joseph Blount, Jr. has 19 tackles and LaTreze Mushatt has recorded the teams only sack on the season. Jammeron Johnson has a team-high 3.5 tackles for loss on the season. Blake Levin has turned into a solid IFL kicker. He has nailed eight of 11 extra point attempts, and four of 10 field goal tries with a long of 27 yards.
