ANALYSIS
This is the only IFL game this week featuring two teams coming off wins, and by identical scores at that. The Blizzard scored on a game-winning five-yard touchdown pass from Lenorris Footman to Keshaun Taylor with 9.7 seconds remaining to topple the Quad City Steamwheelers, 53-47. It was the second last-minute win over the Steamwheelers in as many weeks for the Blizzard, who moved into fourth place in the IFL with the win. The Danger won their second in a row as they were able to hold of the visiting Tucson Sugar Skulls last week, 53-47 behind strong performances from QB Tommy Armstrong, Jr. and WR Eric Thomas. Nebraska improved to 3-3 with the win. The first game between these teams also went down to the wire. It was Footman's six-yard run with 25 seconds remaining which put the Danger ahead for good in a thrilling 53-52 come-from-behind home victory over the Danger back in week 2. The teams have a long history against one another. They've met in 12 previous contests, with the Blizzard leading the overall series, 7-5. Green Bay has won the last three meetings between these teams. The Blizzard are on a three-game winning streak; their first since the 2013 season.
Armstrong, who tossed four passes for touchdown and ran for another in last week's win over Tucson, is completing 60.2 percent of his pases with 15 touchdowns against three interceptions. The former Nebraska Cornhusker seems at his best when he's creating space in the backfield while preparing to throw. He's also a threat to run the ball and leads the IFL with 64.5 yards and 12 touchdowns on the ground. Davonte Sapp-Lynch, has not been utilized as much as he was earlier in the season, but is still averaging 48.8 yards and is second in the league with 11 rushing touchdowns. Three of those scores came in the first meeting between the teams. He also has caught 14 passes for 91 yards. Thomas, who caught six passes for 104 yards and three touchdowns last week, has 22 catches for 244 yards and seven scores on the season. Najee Bright leads the Danger with 30 tackles, as well as a fumble recovery. Brandon Roe has three interceptions, all of which coming last week. Levarious Varnado and Jason Baxter also have interceptions for the Danger defense, while Chris Martin leads the team with 2.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Robert Haynes and D'Vonn Brown also have recorded a sack each. In two games, Jeremy Reynolds has made 10 of his 14 extra point attempts and three of seven field goal tries with a long of 38 yards.
Footman had the best day of his pro career last week, throwing for season highs of 249 yards and six touchdowns, and he ran for two others. It was a signature performance as he lead Green Bay to complete the sweep over the Steamwheelers in consecutive weeks. Footman is completing 50.4 percent of his passes for 783 yards with 13 touchdowns and five interceptions. He is averaging 51.8 yards and has eight rushing touchdowns on the ground; five of which he scored in the first meeting between the teams. B.J. Hill leads the team in receiving with 24 grabs for 294 yards and four touchdowns. Taylor, who caught last week's game winner, comes in with 20 receptions for 203 yards and three touchdowns, while Kezlow Smith has 14 grabs for 156 yards and five scores. The Blizzard are tied with the Arizona Rattlers with eight defensive interceptions for the IFL lead. Joe Powell leads the team with 38 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss. Bakari Triggs has three picks, while arquez Gollman comes in with two to to along with 32 tackles. Dayshawn Taylor is second on the team with 33 tackles. Jadar Johnson and Isaiah Brown each have an interception, while Deldrick Canty has three sacks and Truett Box comes in with 2.5. Cody Barber has completed 18 of 24 point after tries, and five of 13 field goal attempts with a long of 40 yards.
