ANALYSIS
It's round two between these teams; this time, in Illinois. The Storm are trying to keep pace with the Arizona Rattlers and Iowa Barnstormers in the playoff seeding race. They are a game back of Iowa for second place in the IFL standings and, with a win over the Barnstormers in Iowa and running the table, would own the tiebreaker. Second place means a bye in the opening round of the playoffs and a home field date in the Conference finals. The Storm's only two losses on the season have come at the hands of the Rattlers, who stole a victory in Sioux Falls last week, 63-50. This is the second-to-last road game for Sioux Falls on the season, with the other being against the Barnstormers in Des Moines in week 16. The Steamwheelers are tinkering on the edge of playoff eligibility. They are tied with the Tucson Sugar Skulls, but would own the tiebreaker due to their 72-54 win over Tucson in week 9. Of course, that situation could change when the Sugar Skulls meet the Steamwheelers in week 17. They are coming off a disappointing road loss to the Bismarck Bucks last week. Quad City has two more home games after this one. These teams met for the first time on March 22, with the Storm coming away with a 66-52 win in Sioux Falls. Lorenzo Brown, Jr. threw for 160 yards and four touchdowns, and rushed for another six scores in the win. E.J. Hilliard had 248 passing yards and six touchdowns threw the air in the loss.
Brown's 148.9 passing yards per game and 23 touchdown tosses are good for fourth in the league (in both categories). He is completing 60.1 percent of his passes with just five interceptions. Brown has rushed 81 times for 274 yards and 11 scores on the season. Calen Campbell has emerged over the past five weeks as the go to running back. He is rushing for 35.8 yards per game and has eight trips to the end zone. He also has been the featured kick returner. Backup quarterback Tra'Von Chapman has been utilized at times as a running back and receiver. Brandon Sheperd is fifth in the IFL with 62.0 receiving yards and has eight touchdown grabs. Damian Ford leads the team with 11 touchdowns to go along with 26 catches for 388 yards, while Kent Shelby has four touchdown catches in his five appearances this season. T.J. Neal's 40 tackles lead the Storm defense. He also has 2.5 tackles for loss. Matt McKoy Claude Davis' 1.5 sacks, six tackles for loss and five pass break ups lead the team, while Tre Dickerson and Ruck Rumph each have interceptions. In filling in for the injured Miles Bergner, Parker Douglass has hit on eight of 11 extra point attempts and is two of four on field goal tries with a long of 37 yards.
Hilliard leads the IFL with 183.0 passing yards per contest and his 35 touchdown passes are tops in the league as well. He leads the Steamwheelers with 260 rushing yards (off 54 carries) and six touchdowns. There is some help out of the backfield, however, with Zavier Steward rushing for 25.3 yards per game and five touchdowns in three games with the team. Expect to see Carlos Wiggins get some carries out of the backfield as well. Wiggins has 12 catches for 149 yards and four touchdowns and is also a threat in the kick return game. Keyvan Rudd and Quinton Pedroza are second and third with 65.8 and 64.9 receiving yards per game, respectively. Pedroza's 17 touchdown receptions lead the IFL, and Rudd is third with 12. Danzel McDaniel enters this game with 70 tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. La'Kel Bass has 49 tackles and an interception, while Thailand Piece has a pick of his own. Robert Jones is tied for fourth in the IFL with four sacks and his third with 11 tackles for loss. Howard Stephens, Jr., Jeffery Bradley and Kewan Alfred have each tallied a sack for the Quad City defense. Jacob Stytz has nailed 27 of 31 extra point tries and two of six of his field goal attempts with a long of 41 yards.
