BREAKDOWN
This could be the most interesting match up of the week, if not the current playoff race. Given that this is the lone meeting between the teams this season, the tiebreaker is at stake. After this week, should the Steamwheelers win, the teams would be tied in the standings for the sixth and final playoff spot, byt Quad City would own the tiebreaker. Now, there are three weeks of action to go following week 4, but that could turn out to be prevalent. If the Danger win, they will not only own the tiebreaker against the Steamwheelers, but essentially would have a three-game lead (two games sin the standings and the tiebreaker. Meaning, the Danger could all but seal a playoff berth with this win (on condition of other outcomes in this, and subsequent weeks). The Danger, who are a game back of Green Bay, would like to earn a home playoff game in the first round. They'll need some help, however, as the Blizzard have beaten them in two of three games. The IFL playoff race is coming down to the final weeks, and this is a game which could set part of the tone of that. This should be a grind it out affair which should have fans salivating. Certainly a tremendous way to start the weekend in central Nebraska.
The Steamwheelers feature the league's top passing offense led by quarterback E.J. Hilliard. He leads the league with 194.0 passing yards per game and 46 touchdown tosses He is completing 62.4 percent of his passes for 2,134 yards and has thrown just a single interception on the season. For much of the season, the Steamwheelers have relied on Hilliard's arm and rushing ability (30.6 yards per game and 10 touchdowns), but Zavier Steward has some in and provided a punch. Steward is a punishing back who has made to the end zone seven times on the ground in just six games. He also has 19 receptions for 129 yards and another two scores. Quinton "Q" Pedroza is tops in the IFL with 21 touchdown grabs, and fourth with 64.9 receiving yards per game. Keyvan Rudd is third in the League with 66.4 receiving yards per game and 15 scoring grabs. Carlos Wiggins, a threat in the return game, has 21 catches for 325 yard and seven touchdowns. Danzel McDaniel is second in the IFL with 76 tackles, and has 3.5 tackles for loss and an interception. La'Kel Bass has 69 tackles and an interception, while Robert Jones leads the team with six sacks and 13.5 tackles for loss; the latter of which ranks second in the league. Jacob Stytz is one of the best in the IFL, hitting 45 of 50 extra point attempts and five of 12 of his field goal tries.
The Danger are enjoying their best season in several years under head coach Pig Brown. Much of that is due to the play of former Nebraska Cornhusker Tommy Armstrong, Jr.. He is a duel thread quarterback completing 61.3 percent of his passes for 1,441 yards with 32 touchdowns and wight picks. Armstrong ranks second with 59.0 rushing yards per game and is tied for first with 21 touchdowns on the ground. He is augmented in the backfield by Davonte Sapp-Lynch, who ranks firth with 41.2 yards and is tied for third with 17 touchdowns. Make no mistake, the Danger can score on the ground. Eric Thomas hasn't see many targets as of late, but he is explosive and leads the team with 32 catches for 266 yards and 10 touchdowns. Gregory Dent, Jr. is not far behind with his 30 receptions for 337 yards and nine touchdowns. Quincy Walden and Johnny Jackson IV also will be featured in the passing game. Chris Martin leads the team in tackles with 42. He leads the IFL with 8.5 sacks and 16.5 tackles for loss, and has three pass break ups. D'Von Brown has 4.5 sacks and 10.5 tackles for loss, and Seyvon Brown comes in with 3.5 sacks and 6.5 tackles for loss. Brandon Roe is tied for third in the league with five interceptions. Diego Marquez will appear in his fourth game with the Danger. He is 16 of 20 on extra point attempts and two of five on field goal tries with a long of 51 yards.
