Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays SCtoC! I am Spiderfan and this is Web of Football for Week 16 of the NFL season. Some games with some big implications happened, so without further ado let us begin!
Saturday NFL Futbol!
Texans vs Buccaneers
Y'know who sucks? Jameis Winston. Look, I see the passing yardage and even the TD passing numbers, but you can't regularly throw a few or more INTs in a game and be a starting NFL QB. This is year 5. Winston is what he is and has now had 2 coaches who were supposed to "groom" and "fix" him and that has gotten the Buccaneers absolutely nowhere. Let Winston walk and fire Bruce Arians, Bucs. That will be the first step in turning around your franchise.
As for the Texans, Bill O'Brien is a terrible coach but as stated before the football gods like him and so the Texans win the AFC South year after year. They'll get exposed come playoff time, just watch.
Bills vs Patriots
Dag nabbit, those Patriots just won't quit. The Bills went into Foxborough and played a pretty solid game both defensively and offensively. The difference? The Patriots made the plays to win the game. Whether that be on special teams or Tom Brady being clutch or the defense coming up with the redzone stand at the end of the game. It doesn't matter who is on their roster offensively or even defensively, when you have great coaching and game planning you win a lot of games. Which is exactly why the Pats are the AFC East championships for billionth time.
Rams vs 49ers
The Rams are a cautionary tale. There are the phrases "you go big or you go home" and "capitalize on our championship window". Well, the Rams paid their star players and decided to trade various assets (both players and high draft picks) they had in an effort to win a Super Bowl. Credit can be given to Rams GM Les Snead and Rams HC Sean McVay for going "all-in". They also deserve some flack because the problem with going "all-in" is if ya don't win it all? You are a mess.
Todd Gurley is done, which is a shame because he was REALLY good there for a while. Jared Goff is nowhere near the same player since getting his big contract and that big contract is looking like a big mistake. The cap hoops the Rams are going to have to jump through to keep Jalen Ramsey are INSANE. All of this happening right when the Rams are entering SoFi Stadium in Inglewood.
Meanwhile, the 49ers after years of sucking and being one of, if not the worst franchise in football, have finally pulled themselves out the doldrums and are SB contenders. That was emphasized with their win on Saturday night.
"We expected to leave as NFC East champs" - Jerry Jones
The header above is what the Cowboys owner/GM/reason that the Chargers aren't in San Antonio said after the Eagles defeated the Cowboys in Philadelphia on Sunday. Now, I hate to repeat everything I usually say about the Cowboys, but their season should be over, so hopefully I won't have to repeat much longer.
Jason Garrett is a bad HC. At this point every football fan in America has some knowledge of Garrett's underachieving to poor escapades as the HC of the Cowboys. However, this week he stepped up his A-game in not only being incompetent, but also being a jerk. Let me explain:
The Cowboys are down 8 with less than 2 minutes to go. 4th and 8, game and season on the line. You may have heard a guy by the name of Amari Cooper. The guy the Cowboys made the blockbuster midseason trade for last year, the guy who wants a fat contract (20 mil a year) and is expected to get that fat contract. He is the Cowboys #1 receiver and the guy that you would most likely to go in a game and season on the line situation. He was not on the field during the play. Why? Well, due to the aforementioned incompetence of one Jason Garrett, there are various reasons that have been put out there. One was that Cooper was subbed out for resting purposes (because it TOTALLY makes sense to rest your star receiver on the last play of the game). One was that the coaches thought that Cooper had aggravated his injury from earlier in the season, thus it wasn't appropriate for him to be on the field (even though he started the rest of the game). And then Jason Garrett was asked the reason and he said (paraphrasing) "You'll have to ask Kellen Moore, cause that was his decision" throwing OC Kellen Moore under the bus.
I'm no fan of Kellen Moore, but the idea that the HC either doesn't know what the OC is doing, doesn't care, or doesn't have a say in that situation makes me dislike Garrett even more. It also makes me dislike Moore even more because WHY WOULD CALL A 50-50 BALL TO MICHAEL GALLUP ON THE LAST PLAY OF THE GAME?! Michael Gallup is not a guy that you put in that situation. He is a speedy run in space type receiver, not a go up and get it type receiver. Moore you are the OC. Garrett you are the HC. Sanjay Lal you are the WR coach. SOMEONE SHOULD KNOW WHAT IS HAPPENING IN THAT SITUATION!
Everyone talks about Garrett should go, not many people (outside of myself) talk about how the assistant coaches also suck. None of them should come back next season. Offensively, defensively, special teams, the whole lot of em. The 4th and 8 play in Philadelphia represents everything wrong with the Cowboys organization. Incompetence, finger pointing, and denial. Go Renegades!
The important Week 17 games
It is that time of year again where playoffs are on the line in the last week of the season. I'm only gonna talk about games that effect in one way or another affect entry into the postseason as talking about how teams can maneuver their playoff seeding is not all that interesting, when compared to do or die type games. Also, I'm going to be try to have the least complex scenarios, 1.) cause they aren't likely and 2.) It will make writing this easier and reading this easier to understand. So with credit to ESPN.com (Which helped me greatly with this segment) Here are the important games of Week 17 and who they affect:
Bears-Vikings or Lions-Packers or Chiefs-Chargers or Patriots-Dolphins affects the Raiders
I lumped all of these games together in one, because one of the things that the Raiders need to make the postseason is for the Bears, Lions, Chiefs, or Patriots to win against their respective opponents. Interestingly enough all of the games are in the early window, so the Raiders fate could be decided before they even play their game against the Broncos.
Colts-Jaguars affects the Raiders
The Raiders need the Colts to beat the Jaguars. If Jags win? The Raiders are eliminated. If the Colts win? Then the Raiders are still alive. But the Raiders will still need more.
Steelers-Ravens affect the Steelers and Raiders
The Steelers need to beat the Ravens to have a shot at getting in. If the Ravens win? The Steelers are eliminated. One of the things the Raiders need is for the Ravens to beat the Steelers. The Ravens lose? Then the Steelers are still alive and the Raiders are eliminated.
Raiders-Broncos affects the Raiders
The Raiders need all the stuff above to turn their game against the Broncos into a do or die type game. The Raiders win (and all the aforementioned stuff happens) they a have a good shot at getting in. The Broncos win and the Raiders are eliminated. But there is one last thing both the Steelers and Raiders need to make the postseason.
Titans-Texans affects the Raiders and Steelers and Titans
If the Titans win, they are in, eliminating both the Steelers and Raiders. If the Titans lose, then the Steelers defeating the Ravens would get the Steelers in. A Titans loss, also means that the Raiders defeating the Broncos along with a Steelers loss and Jaguars loss, and a Vikings, Packers, Chargers, or Dolphins loss would get the Raiders in.
The other thing worth mentioning is that the Raiders-Broncos, Titans-Texans, Colts-Jaguars, and Ravens-Steelers games are all in the late window, so the scoreboard watching is going to be at peak levels for the AFC. Exciting stuff!
Eagles-Tinys affects the Eagles and Cowboys
If the Eagles win against the Tinys, the Eagles win the NFC East and get into the playoffs eliminating their rival Cowboys. If the Eagles lose? Then things get interesting.
Cowboys-Redskins affects the Cowboys and Eagles
If the Eagles lose to the Tinys, then a Cowboys win against the Redskins would give the Cowboys the NFC East division title, eliminating their rival Eagles. However, if the Redskins beat the Cowboys, then the outcome of the Eagles-Tinys game doesn't matter, because the Eagles would win the NFC East automatically.
Interestingly enough both the Cowboys-Redskins and Eagles-Tinys games are also in the late window, meaning that the scoreboard watching in Philly and Dallas is going to be intense. More excitement!

Random Eurobeat Recommendation of the Week
What is Eurobeat? It is basically European disco pop music. It was made most famous by the anime series Initial D and Initial D is my favorite anime of all time in part because of the Eurobeat music throughout it. Because it is that time of year, my recommendation this week is the Night of Fire Christmas mix by Niko. Enjoy!
I know this edition of Web of Football came later than usual, but the holidays caused me to busy. Regardless, I hope y'all had a great Christmas and I hope to see ya again next week. This is spiderfan out.
