The Portland Timbers will look to make their way back to the MLS Cup for the first time since 2018. After falling short to Atlanta United FC, 2-0, for that season's MLS Cup, the Timbers made a return trip to the playoffs last season. However, they were eliminated in the First Round by Real Salt Lake. The 2015 MLS champions are set to embark on their signature 10th season in the league.
Overview
In 2019 the Timbers opened the season with 12 straight games on the road due to extensive renovations being done to Providence Park. In 2020 they enter their 10th Major League Soccer regular season with a two-game home stand. That could give Portland the opportunity to start the season with a bit of a bang.
After a three-game home pre-season schedule in February, the regular season opens on March 1 in Portland with a meeting against Minnesota United FC. The Timbers face Cascadia Cup rival Vancouver Whitecaps FC on April 25 in the first of a pair of meetings between the teams during the course of the season. The teams conclude the season against one another in Vancouver on October 4. The Timbers face their other Cascadia rival, Seattle Sounders FC, twice. The teams first face off on May 17 in Portland and will meet again on September 22 in the Emerald City.
The Timbers have a half dozen two-game home stands, and they face just one three-game road trip. That comes over an eight-day span from May 23 to May 30 when they visit Minnesota United FC, Chicago Fire FC and Orlando City SC. Also on the schedule is a span of four of five on the road from June 21 to July 11.
Many matches are broadcast nationally or regionally, and games which are not on a nationwide broadcast are will air locally on KPDX in the Portland area. All broadcast information is listed in parenthesis in the schedule below. Check your listings to find the corresponding channels in your area.
The Timbers play their home games at Providence Park, located at 1844 SW Morrison in downtown Portland. The location was originally used as a field before the actual stadium was constructed and completed in 1926. Providence Park has a capacity of 25,218. The stadium was previously home to the Portland State University football team, the Vikings, as well as other sporting events. Providence Park is also home to the Portland Thorns of the National Women's Soccer League.
Home games are noted in Bold Green. All times on this schedule are pacific time and are subject to change. Where applicable, click on the final score for the Timbers official match summary.
