June 3 -- The Arena Football League has announced that the Thunder have been assigned defensive back Dwight McLean.
The name should be familiar to Thunder fans, as McLean was one of the starting trio of defensive backs last season in the team's inaugural year. He started this season as a member of the Las Vegas Outlaws. He was placed on recallable reassignment (waived) by the Outlaws on May 26.
McLean, in his fifth AFL season, was second on the team in tackles last season with 59. He also had 16 pass breakups and 3 interceptions. He also returned 43 kickoffs for 676 yards for an average of 15.7 yards per return.
He had 26 tackles, 7 pass breakups and an interception for the Outlaws this season.
McLean, 6'2", 210, has 269 tackles over his career, as well as 6 forced fumbles and 9 interceptions. He has also played for the San Jose Sabercats, Arizona Rattlers, San Antonio Talons and New Orleans VooDoo.
He is expected to bolster a defensive backfield which is giving up 54.7 points per game -- third worst in the AFL. The Thunder have just five interceptions on the season.
McLean reflected on he and the Thunder's season in his exit interview with the team in August:
"After just now coming back and losing our first playoff game, it kind of hurts because we lost with seconds left in the game. But overall, I feel good about the season. It being our first season, and making the playoffs, we came along way from the start to now, so I can't be too upset about how we finished the season."
