In honor of Sports Coast to Coast's expansion of the forums to include Spokane based teams, we've provided the 2015-16 regular season schedule for the Spokane Chiefs. The Chiefs play in the U.S. Division of the WHL's Western Conference. The U.S. Division features the 5 teams from the United States and consists of the Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, and Tri-City Americans.
The Chiefs will begin the 2015-16 campaign at home against Tri-City on Bud Light Opening Night, Saturday, September 26 at Spokane Arena. The season opener at home will mark the first time since the 2000-01 season that Spokane will begin the season at home (which happened to be against Tri-City). The game will also be the 11th consecutive year that Spokane's first home game is against Tri-City. It will also be the 5th consecutive season which the Chiefs begin their season with a game versus the Americans. Spokane has an 8-1-0-1 record in their last 10 home openers and an overall 20-9-0-1 in home openers.
After the home opener against the Ams, the Chiefs will play six consecutive road games. 12 of their first 18 games will be on the road, including the infamous Eastern Conference swing where the Chiefs will visit 4 of the 6 teams in the Central Division.
In addition to Bud Light Opening Night, popular promotions of past years will be back, including the 5th annual Leinenkugel's Hocktoberfest & Leavenworth Weekend Giveaway on October 17. It will feature an Oktoberfest themed fan festival outside the Spokane Arena that starts at 4 p.m., 3 hours before puck drop. Fans will have a chance to win a weekend getaway to the German themed tourist town of Leavenworth, WA, courtesy of Leinenkugel's. There will also be a silent auction featuring Chiefs memorabilia.
On November 14, the Chiefs will host Coeur D'Alene Casino Native American Night, featuring a special pre-game ceremony to honor local Native American heritage. There will also be a Jersey Off the Back live auction during intermissions. The Chiefs will wear their blue alternate jerseys that night.
December 12 will be the annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by the Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to throw on the ice after the Chiefs score their first goal. All bears and stuff animals will then be donated to the Spokesman-Review's Christmas Fund. Last year, Liam Stewart scored at the 14:56 mark of the 1st Period in last year's Teddy Bear Toss game, resulting in over 6,000 bears tossed on the ice.
On December 19, the Chiefs will celebrate 100 years of hockey in Spokane. The team will wear faux throwback jerseys that will be featured in a silent auction during the game. All proceeds go to Chiefs Care and the Chiefs' Continuing education Scholarship Fund.
The Coca-Cola Bobblehead Giveaway will take place January 23. This year's bobblehead features Spokane Chief great and Memorial Cup & Stanley Cup Champion Ray Whitney and will be given out to the first 2,000 fans.
The annual Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade Breast Cancer Awareness Night will take place February 20. The Chiefs will wear special pink-accented jerseys which will be auctioned off in the concourse in a silent auction. Pink accented game worn helmets will also be given away via prize drawings.
The Chiefs will also honor Memorial Cup Champion, Spokane native, and current Tampa Bay Lightning forward Tyler Johnson on February 26. The first 5,000 fans will get a Tyler Johnson Poster, courtesy of Subway.
Home games are noted in bold and red. All times are PT.
