"The People's Champ" is the champ of one baby girl. Former Blazers, and current Denver Nuggets guard Will Barton provided one of the cooler moments between a player and fan this season, and the fan may not even be aware of it. As he was leaving the court at halftime during the Nuggets' game against the Indiana Pacers on Jan. 17, a fan holding the young girl lifted her hand up; to which the reaction from Barton was to softly giver her a fist bump. Barton earned the nickname "The People's Champ" (or, frequently according to Blazers broadcaster Mike Rice as The People's Choice), early in his career due to his hard work and hustle. His other nickname is "The Thrill." You can see the video of the fist bump and The Fumble's report of it here: Barton scored 15 of his 21 points in the fourth quarter as the Nuggets turned back the Pacers, 129-126. The Nuggets scored 45 in the fourth. He also had 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in the game. Barton, who played his first two-and-a-half years for the Blazers, was traded along with Victor Claver, Thomas Robinson and draft pick considerations to the Nuggets last February for Arron Afflalo and Alonzo Gee. Barton is averaging 15.9 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists this season. The Nuggets are 16-25 on the season, fourth place in the Northwest Division and 11th in the Western Conference. They are one-and-a-half games behind the ninth-place Blazers in the conference standings.. - ANMTo comment on this thread and others on this forum, please login or register.

I remember Will had a great relationship with the fans. I'm glad he has continued it in Denver. The NBA needs more guys like him. Good job Thrill!

This is great. Last month when I was in Philadelphia, I went to the Sixers-Nuggets game. I was sitting right near the Nuggets bench on the baseline, just a few rows back and Will was fist bumping all the fans in that area.
He's a great guy and an improved player!

I was never sure about Will as a player just because he seemed inconsistent. I knew he had talent but he often seemed to play out of control. What I always appreciated was that he worked hard and was a really good guy. This is a great time in his career and you can see he is enjoying it and reaching out to fans. Maybe Mike Rice is correct and he really should be called The People's Choice!
