The Spokane Empire have announced that they have activated RB Andrew Pierce off the Refuse to Report list and have placed him on the active roster.
Earlier this morning, the Empire officially confirmed the roster move on their Facebook page. Although the team made the news official on Thursday, Pierce's activation was listed on the IFL's Transactions page on June 8th, the same day that RB Trevor Kennedy was placed on Season Ending IR.
According to the Spokesman-Review, IFL rules state that a player activated from RTR and placed on the active roster must sit out 3 weeks before they are eligible to play. That means DB Josh Ferguson will continue to serve as Spokane's starting running back until the Intense Conference Championship game.
Pierce (5'9'', 210 lbs, Deleware) was an All-IFL selection with the Tri-Cities Fever in 2015. He rushed for 415 yards and 21 touchdowns, and also caught 46 passes for 406 yards and 6 TDs. Pierce was also the Fever's primary kick returner, returning 38 kickoffs for 661 yards.
Signed as a free-agent this past off season, Pierce one of several defections from Tri-Cities to join former Head Coach Adam Shackleford in Spokane. He was slated to be the team's starter but jumped at the chance to play in the new Major League Football spring league, opening the door for Trevor Kennedy. Pierce returned to the Empire prior to their April 16th game against the Iowa Barnstormers, but did not suit up for the next two games. Shortly afterward, he was placed on the Refuse to Report list.
