Welcome to SCtoC's week 3 presentation of the 2016 college football season.
We're rolling out a couple of new aspects to this thread:
The first is a link to the radio broadcasts of each game. In our game previews, this will appear in the "Radio" line. At the bottom of the page, radio links for each game will appear in the schedule in our Other SCtoC Games This Week section. This will enable our readers to listen to one game, watch another, and comment here.
The second new item appears in our poll section and will allow our members to select the game(s) we will feature the follow week. You vote, we will preview it, and all of us will follow those games the next weekend.
We are featuring one game this week, and it promises to be a great one. The Washington St. Cougars, coming off a heartbreaking three-point loss to open the season, head to Idaho's state capital to battle the Boise St. Broncos, who opened their season with a decisive win. Kickoff is at 7:15 p.m. on ESPN2.
We will feature a brief preview and invite our members and readers to join the conversation as we follow each game.
WASHINGTON ST. COUGARS AT BOISE ST. BRONCOS
Date: September 10, 2016
Time: 7:15 p.m. (PT)
Place: Albertson's Stadium; Boise, Idaho.
Television: ESPN2.
Radio: KBOI AM.
Head Coaches: Washington St. - Mike Leach. Boise St. - Bryan Harsin.
Washington St.: The Cougars are 0-1 on the season after falling to Eastern Washington, 45-42, on Sept. 3. There was plenty of offense, but the defense was lacking, particularly in the third quarter. Luke Falk wend 41/51 for 418 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception. Gabe Marks paced the receiving corps with 10 catches for 108 yards and 2 touchdowns. Gerard Wicks ran for 52 yards and a score, and caught 5 passes for 45 yards and another score. Robert Lewis had 4 receptions for 67 yards, while Kyle Sweet registered 3 grabs for 45 yards and a touchdown. Official Roster.
Boise St.: The Broncos showed no mercy in their opener, dominating Louisiana-Lafayette to a 45-10 result. That puts them at 1-0 on the young season. Brett Rypien completed 22 or 33 passes for 347 and 2 touchdowns. Jeremy McNichols had 7 receptions for 113 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and rushed for 48 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Thomas Sperbeck had 6 catches for 130 yards and a touchdown. Sperbeck also threw a 48 yard touchdown to McNichols. Alexander Mattison led all rushers with 61 yards and a score. Official Roster.
Notes: Cougars head coach Mike Leach has not won a season opener in his five years at the school. Boise St. has won 13 conference championships over the past 17 years (Western Athletic Conference and Mountain West Conference). Jack Elway, father of NFL Hall of Fame QB John Elway, played QB for the Cougars for one season. Broncos' QB Brett Rypien, a Spokane native, is the nephew of former NFL QB Mark Rypien, who won two Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins and was named MVP of Super Bowl XXVI. Mark Rypien attended Washington St.
