The Salt Lake Screaming Eagles will open their inaugural season in the soon to be friendly confines of the Maverik Center as they host the Nebraska Danger on February 16 at 6 p.m. (PT). The game serves as the kick off to the 2017 Indoor Football League's season.
The Screaming Eagles will look to make a splash as the first fan run team in professional sports. Fans have voted on the location, team name, colors and even on the first two player signees. It was the fans which voted to make William McCarthey the first head coach of the franchise. During the upcoming season, fans also will be able to vote on plays during the game.
Salt Lake makes its first road trip when it visits the Colorado Crush on February 26. Like the Screaming Eagles, the Crush are owned by Project FanChise. The connection could turn out to set the stage for the origins of a rivalry.
Then they have a stretch of two byes in three weeks. The Screaming Eagles have only one instance when they play two home games in a row, and that happens in late May-early June. Their longest road swing of the season comes weeks 10-12 when they face the Danger, Spokane Empire and Crush.
The Screaming Eagles play the Empire and Crush four times during the season. They face the Danger and Arizona Rattlers twice each. The 12 games comprise their schedule against their Intense Conference opponents. They play four teams of the United Conference once. The only team Salt Lake does not play is the defending champion Sioux Falls Storm.
Salt Lake closes out the season at home against Spokane on June 16. The Screaming Eagles play three of their last four games at home.
The IFL's schedule provides that all 10 teams plays 16 games (8 home/8 away) over 18 weeks, with each team getting two bye weeks. The league's regular season will begin Thursday, February 16 and run through Saturday, June 17.
The following is Salt Lake's 2017 schedule (times are pacific; bold navy blue designates home games). Note: If the Screaming Eagles make the playoffs, that information will be updated.
Game threads will be available for most, if not all of the Screaming Eagles games. As this site also covers the Empire, a single game thread will appear in the SCtoC section designated for the home team of that game.
Information has yet to be released by the team as to broadcast information (we at SCtoC will updated as that information becomes available). All IFL games, including the playoffs and the United Bowl, are streamed on YouTube (YouTube.com/IndoorFootballLeague).
