The Sioux Falls Storm scored 19 unanswered points to rally to defeat the Arizona Rattlers, 40-29, for their 63rd straight home win.
The Storm, who trailed 22-21 at the half, took the lead for good on a two-yard run from Mike Tatum with 4:01 left in the fourth quarter. They iced the game with 25 second remaining on a nine-yard pass from Lorenzo Brown.
Four Sioux Falls players scored rushing touchdowns in the game.
The teams traded scored through the first three quarters before the Storm went on their run, which was ignited when Rashard Smith intercepted Rattlers' quarterback Darron Thomas and returned it 50 yards for a touchdown.
Brown attempted just 11 passes, completing five of them for 59 yards and a touchdown. He also ran for 41 yards and a score. Korey Williams led all rushers with 61 yards on nine carries for a score. He also had a receiving touchdown. Mike Tatum, who caught three passes for 39 yards, also rushed for 38 yards and a touchdown. Robbie Rouse amassed 25 rushing yards and a touchdown. Matt Hermanson led the Storm with 10 tackles, while Smith and Tyler Knight each recorded nine. Cory Henry had a sack for Sioux Falls.
Thomas, who spend parts of the past three seasons with the Portland Thunder/Steel, completed 14 of 28 passes for 156 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. Thomas also ran seven times for 23 yards. Former Colorado Crush receiver Demarius Washington led all receivers with six receptions for 75 yards, while adding a touchdown. Anthony Amos caught 5 balls for 61 yards and two scores. Allen Chapman led the Rattlers with nine tackles, newly re-signed Arkieth Brown had eight tackles and Adam Sauder tallied seven.
The Storm (1-0) will be in Cedar Rapids to face the Titans (0-1) on Feb. 25 at 5:05 p.m. The Rattlers (0-1) will host the Iowa Barnstormers (0-0) on Feb. 26 at 2 p.m. Both games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
