Marquel Willis snared three touchdown passes to help lead the Green Bay Blizzard to a 46-13 win over the Cedar Rapids Titans in the teams' 2017 season opener.
Willis opened the scoring with six minutes left in the first quarter with a 35-yard touchdown catch from Matt Behrendt. He also closed with the 34 yard touchdown catch from Behrendt with 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Willis finished with five receptions for 93 yards and the three scores.
With the Blizzard on top 6-0 early in the second quarter, the Titans took the lead on a three-yard run from Jamuel Jones. Michael Georgetti's extra point gave the Titans a 7-6 lead.
Green Bay would go on to outscore Cedar Rapids 27-0 through the next two quarters to essentially put the game away.
Behrendt completed 14 of 25 passes for 192 yards and four touchdowns in the win. Spence Kashaudas added a pair of touchdowns on 11 rushes for 32 yards. Tacoi Sumler caught three balls for 34 yards and a touchdown, and Andre McDonald added three receptions for 31 yards. Manny Asprilla lead the Blizzard with 8 tackles and Tyrell Pearson recorded an interception. Giovani Francois has 1.5 sacks and Jack Sherlock had one of his own.
Jones accounted for both Cedar Rapids' touchdowns with a pair of three-yard runs, and also caught two passes for 34 yards. Cory Murphy completed 10 of 22 passes for 75 yards, while Brion Carnes was four of nine for 54 yards and a pick. Murphy also rushed six times for 31 yards. Tre Parnalee paced the Titans with 8 catches for 66 yards, and Damond Powell added three receptions for 25 yards.
The Blizzard (1-0) visit Spokane to face the Empire (0-0) on Feb. 23 at 7 p.m. The Titans (0-1) next at home on Feb. 25 against the defending champion Sioux Falls Storm (1-0). Both games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
