CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - The Green Bay Blizzard scored the final 12 points of the fourth quarter as they rallied past the Cedar Rapids Titans, 34-28.
The Blizzard drew even at 28-28 on a 33-yard pass from Matt Behrendt to Marquel Willis with 1:20 to go. They took the lead for good 30 seconds later when Manny Asprilla intercepted Brion Carnes; pass and returned it 38 yards for what would turn out to be the winning score.
Cedar Rapids got out to an early 9-0 lead with a 22-yard field goal from Michael Georgetti and 12-yard pass from Carnes to Conner Hollenbneck. The titans opened up a 21-14 lead to open the third quarter on a 21-yard field goal from Georgetti, who ended the game hitting three of five field goals.
The Titans registered 18 first downs and 193 total yards to the Blizzard's 14 and 233, respectively. The Blizzard intercepted Carnes twice, and the Titans forced three turnovers; three interceptions and a fumble recovery.
No sacks were recorded in the game.
Behrendt completed 15 or 24 passes for 208 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He also ran five times for 17 yards and a score. Willis had four catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns, while Tacoi Sumler had four receptions for 49 yards and a trip to the end zone.Karl Mickelsen led the Blizzard with eight tackles. Asprilla added seven tackles to his interception. Tyrell Pearson had an interception for the Blizzard.
Carnes completed 15 of his 38 attempts for 144 yards, three touchdowns and two picks. Jamuel Jones carried eight times for 35 yards. Damond Powell led all receivers with six grabs for 87 yards and a touchdown. Tre Parmalee had four receptions for 37 yards. Hollenbeck and Franklyn Williamson each caught a touchdown pass from Carnes. Jourdan Wickliffe intercepted Behrendt once, while Tony Grimes and Chris Martin each recovered a Green Bay fumble. B.J. Lowery led the Titans with six tackles.
The Blizzard (2-2) will host the Arizona Rattlers (1-2) on March 26 for a 1:05 p.m. (pacific) kickoff. The Titans (0-4) will visit in-state rival the Iowa Barnstormers (2-1) March 26 at 1:05 p.m. (pacific). The Barnstormers visit the defending champion Sioux Falls Storm on March 20 at 4:05 p.m. (pacific). Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
