SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm broke out to a 28-0 lead early in the second quarter and dominated the Iowa Barnstormers all night en route to a 70-13 win tonight.
Quarterback Lorenzo Brown opened up the scoring with a 10-yard run with 3:45 left on the opening stanza. Brown's 30-yard pass to Mike Tatum three minutes later put the Storm up 14-0 by the end of the quarter. Cory Henry's fumble recovery in end zone and then Tatum's touchdown catch from Brown with 10:30 left in the second quarter put the Storm up by the 10:30 mark.
The Barnstormers would get on the board with 4:30 left in the opening half on a three-yard run from Ryan Balentine.
Sioux Falls then scored 36 straight points as it took a lead of 64-7 with just under a minute left in the third quarter.
Iowa scored early in the fourth quarter on a one-yard run from Travis Partridge, but the two-point conversion pass from kicker Kenton Chun failed. The Storm closed out the scoring at the 8:19 point of the fourth quarter on a six-yard run from Robbie Rouse.
The Barnstormers' 13 points matched the lowest point total in the IFL this season set by the Cedar Rapids Titans in the Titans' opening weekend loss to the Green Bay Blizzard (48-13).
The Storm defense intercepted Partridge three times.
Brown was nearly perfect on the night, completing 11 of 13 passes for 112 yards and three scores. He also ran for two touchdowns. Robbie Rouse carried the ball 15 times for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Tatum caught four passes for 46 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Melvin German III had six grabs for 61 yards and a touchdowns of their own. Matt Hermanson, Tyler Knight and Rashard Smith each had an interception. Hermanson led the Storm with 10 tackles.
Partridge completed 17 of 33 passes for 137 yards, three interceptions and no touchdowns. Lucas Hefty led the Barnstormers in receptions with six catches for51 yards. In addition to his rushing touchdown, Balentine caught three passes for 23 yards, while Brady Roland added three receptions for 20 yards. Javicz Jones paced Iowa's defense with 10 tackles.
The Storm (4-0) will host the Wichita Falls Nighthawks (4-0) on March 25 at 5:05 p.m. (pacific). The Barnstormers (2-2) will be at home against the Titans (0-4) on March 26 with a 1:05 p.m. (pacific) kickoff. Both of those games, as well as all of the leagues games this season are available for streaming on the IFL's Youtube channel.
