CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - Sioux Falls stormed out to a 23-0 lead by the 11-minute mark of the second quarter, and fended off the Cedar Rapids Titans to beat the Titans, 46-21.
With the win, Sioux Falls remained undefeated and improved their record to a league-best 6-0.
Storm kicker Justin Syrovatka converted on six of his seven field goal attempts and made all four of his extra point attempts. Syrovatka kicked field goals of 22, 17 and 14 yards to give the Storm a 9-0 lead by the end of the opening quarter. Sioux Falls scored two touchdowns early in the second quarter on a 22-yard pass from Lorenzo Brown to Melvin German and a fumble recovery in the end zone by Chris Baker.
The Titans got on the board with 6:02 left in the second on a two-yard pass from Brion Carnes to Marcus Bennett and would pulled to within 30-15 with 48 seconds left in the half on Carnes' 37-yard pass to Tre Parmalee.
Sioux Falls took a 46-15 lead at the 5:47 mark of the fourth quarter on Syrovatka's 25-yard field goal -- his sixth of the day -- before Cedar Rapids scored the game's final touchdown on a three-yard pass from Carnes to Julian Hayes with 3:16 left.
The Storm outgained the Titans in total yards, 197-121, including 121 rushing yards. They also intercepted Carnes three times. The Storm had an advantage in time of possession, 36:17 to 23:43. The teams combined for 19 penalties for 140 yards.
Brown completed seven of 22 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed seven times for 24 yards and two trips to the end zone. Robbie Rouse rushed 14 times for 74 yards. German led the Storm with four catches for 64 yards and a touchdown. Elijah Fields recorded two interceptions and Matt Hermanson had one. Claude Davis and Khaliff Mitchell had interceptions for Sioux Falls (the third was credited as a "team" interception).
Carnes went 15 of 27 for 141 yards, three touchdowns and three picks. Damond Powell had four catches for 69 yards. Parmalee added four catches for 56 yards. Parmalee, Hayes and Barnett each caught a touchdown. Tony Grimes and B.J. Lowery led the Titans with six total tackles apiece.
The Storm (6-0) will host the Green Bay Blizzard (2-5) on April 15 at 5:05 p.m. (pacific). The Titans (1-6) will be in Wichita Falls to face the Nighthawks (6-1) on April 14 at 5:05 p.m. (pacific).
