GREEN BAY, WA - The Sioux Falls Storm improved to an IFL-best 11-1 in week 13 as they slowed down the Green Bay Blizzard, 44-24, on Saturday night.
The game was knotted at 7-7 after the opening quarter before the Storm stored on a one-yard run by Jared Elmore. They added to that lead later in the second quarter on a five-yard run from Robbie Rouse.
Sioux Falls pulled out to a 34-17 lead with 30 seconds to go in the third quarter on quarterback Lorenzo Brown's four-yard run. The Blizzard pulled to within 34-24 with just under nine minutes left in the fourth quarter. on Jack Bramswig's five yard touchdown grab from Matt Behrendt.
The Storm pulled away in the fourth on Drew Powell's nine-yard touchdown from Brown, and Justin Syrovatka's late 29-yard field goal.
With the win, the Storm maintained their one-game lead over the Wichita Falls Nighthawks and Iowa Barnstormers in the United Conference standings.
The Storm more than doubled the Blizzard in total offense, 225 to 112, and held a 132 to 17 edge in the running game. Green Bay lost two fumbles in the turnover battle. Sioux Falls had 12 penalties for 63 yards, while the Blizzard committed three infractions for 25 yards.
Brown completed nine of 13 passes for 93 yards and a touchdown, while rushing 15 times for 61 yards and two scores. Rouse had 13 carries for 48 yards and a touchdown. Elmore and Eric Shufford each had a rushing touchdown. Jonathan Epps led the Storm in receiving with three receptions for 27 yards, and Powell had a pair of catches for 27 yards and a score. Tyler Knight had 5.5 total tackles and a fumble recovery, and Claude Davis recovered the other fumble for the Storm. Khaliff Mitchell tallied two sacks and Cory Henry had one sack.
Behrendt went eight of 19 for 95 yards and two touchdowns. Darryan Ragsdale added a rushing touchdown to his 24 rushing yards off 12 carries. Bramswig caught four passes for 52 yards and two touchdowns, and Marquel Willis had four catches for 34 yards. Jerome Junior had 8.5 total tackles and Manny Asprilla had 6.5 total tackles for Green Bay.
The Storm (10-1) will host the Cedar Rapids Titans (1-11) May 20 at 5:05 p.m. The Blizzard (2-10) will visit the Nebraska Danger (6-5) for a 5:05 p.m. kickoff. All times are pacific time.
