After an admittedly disappointing end to the season for the Nighthawks, owner Drew Carnes was on Newschannel 6 in Wichita Falls and talked about the future of the team. You can watch the full interview here. The TL;DW on the interview is due to geographic reasons the Nighthawks are considering leaving the Indoor Football League for Champions Indoor Football. With a number of Texas teams in Champions Indoor Football the travel between road games would be easier than the IFL, according to Carnes. Arena Football Talk had a different take on the subject saying that if the Nighthawks were to move, they should move to the National Arena League. You can read that here. My personal take is that if the Nighthawks are serious about leaving the IFL, then the IFL should try to get another team in the region to keep the Nighthawks. Whether that be threw traditional expansion or adding a team from the CIF, I don't know. What I do know is losing the Nighthawks would be a big blow to the IFL, as Wichita Falls is a good market and the Nighthawks do keep competitive balance in the IFL, something which a league like say the AFL doesn't have. The NAL is arguably more "primetime" than the CIF and the NAL has been actively trying to recruit teams from various leagues to join in. If the Nighthawks were to join the NAL, the NAL would then be much more competitive towards the IFL than before. At this point that is all pure speculation though and I hope the Nighthawks stay. The IFL is already looking at losing at least 1 team (the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles) if not more, so losing any extras would not be ideal.

My hunch is that the Nighthawks will stay around for another year. I have nothing more to base that on than a gut feeling. I am sure they are considering a move, but downgrading to the CIF is not the greatest move they could make. Moving the NAL would not eliminate the travel issues, so I do not see that as a strong possibility.
I agree that expansion to another city somewhat near Wichita Falls could entice the Nighthawks to stay. I am thinking of another Texas team or perhaps Oklahoma or Kansas. I would hate to see them leave the IFL They helped make the league, and the United Conference in particular, much more interesting this year.

Sadly, the Nighthawks have left for Champions Indoor Football.
