So after a delay my Week 5 random thoughts and stuff are here! Let us begin!
INJURIES!
Whitney Mercilus, Brandon Marshall, OBJ, and JJ Watt have all suffered season ending injuries. The Texans defense and Giants offense won't be the same without these guys and should have a significant impact on both clubs. You hate to see injuries like this and I hope for speedy recovery for all the players involved. Here's the impact I see for the teams:
The Giants offense was already bad and the only thing keeping it somewhat functioning was OBJ. Marshall was never incorporated like he should have been and now the Giants offense should become the worst in the league. Add on top of that an overpayed overrated defense and you've got a recipe for an abysmal season. I would be surprised if McAdoo was the still the Giants coach after this season.
The Texans defense will be radically different without 2 of their best players. These injuries will test not only the skills of the other defensive players, but also Mike Vrabel as a defensive coordinator. We'll see what happens.
Big Ben is done
It is time. He was already musing about retirement in the offseason and now is showing apathy toward the team. The great Bill Parcells once said that if you're thinking about retirement, you are retired and that became clear this week with Big Ben. I think he should retire now and let the Steelers see if Josh Dobbs is their future at QB. He'll probably retire after the season though. Also keep in the back of your mind Kirk Cousins to the Steelers in FA. This is because the Steelers are good enough to not be in rebuild mode and they are going to need a QB. Why not Cousins?
Almost comebacks!
The 49ers forced the game against the Colts into OT aaaaaannnndddd they still suck. The Browns benched Kizer for Hogan and he made the game against the Jets into a 3 point game late in the 4th aaaaaannnndddd they still suck. The Lions make also make it a 3 point game late in the 4th against the Panthers aaaaaannnndddd they can't finish the comeback. Close but no cigar.
Other random notes:
-The Pats still aren't good but are likely to go on a win streak and be back.
-Jay Cutler doesn't suck. #dealwithit
-The Chargers finally won a game (and yes that is worth a note)
-Aaron Rodgers can't be stopped. Although he isn't the best QB in the NFL because
-Alex Smith is currently the best QB in the league and I wouldn't have expected that in a million years.
-Trubisky's debut was meh.
-Case Keenum should be a starting QB.
-This edition of Random Thoughts & Stuff included some of the hottest takes on the interwebz.
ROAD TO 0-16
3 teams currently don't have a win. I will do this segment until every team in the NFL has a win.
Teams that currently don't have a win:
New York Giants
San Francisco 49ers
Cleveland Browns
Of these 3 I still think the 49ers are the worst team in football, but the Giants aren't too far behind. The Browns are bad, but I give them a pass because of the amount of youth on that team. They'll get better in time. Teams most likely to 0-16 are the 49ers and Giants.
ROAD TO 16-0
1 team currently does not have a loss. I will do this segment until they have a loss.
Team that currently doesn't have a loss:
Kansas City Chiefs
They are still the best team in football and the losses (if they ever come) will be few and far between.
So with Week 5's Random Thoughts and stuff in the books it will be time for Week 6. See ya then! This is spiderfan out.
