So this edition of Random Thoughts & Stuff was delayed primarily because rumors had it that Chuck Pagano of the Colts was going to get fired. However, he didn't so without further delay let us begin!
Blowouts, blowouts, and more blowouts.
The Cardinals lost 33-0 (more on that later), The Colts lost 27-0, the 49ers lost 40-10, the Broncos lost 21-0 (their first shutout loss since 1992), and the Giants lost 24-7. Add on to those to the losses the Falcons and Redskins suffered (23-7 and 34-24 respectively) which don't look like blowouts but felt like them, and you have a recipe for some bad football. More than anything it made me realize that the teams I thought were bad like the Colts, 49ers, and Giants are still bad. I am surprised a bit by
The teams that were blowing out opponents
The LA Chargers (not San Diego Chargers) pitched a great game, which is something they don't usually do (more on them later). The Cowboys haven't played that great since late last season and the Rams maybe the best in the NFC. The Jaguars do confuse me though, as one week they'll be great and the next not so much. This leads me to believe that they will eventually fall apart at the wrong time either late in the year or in the postseason. The Seahawks meanwhile started out sluggish, but came roaring with 24 unanswered points similar to their win against the Colts. This week did make me realize that teams that I thought were good like the Rams, Seahawks, Chargers, and Cowboys are good teams.
More injuries?!
So in London, Carson Palmer broke his arm. The Cardinals have struggled to win without Palmer in recent years and their season now relies on Adrian Peterson. In Cleveland Joe Thomas who hadn't ever missed a snap with the Browns, has torn his triceps and is also out for the rest of the season. This of course will make Cleveland worse and probably turn them into a truly bad team. What is most saddening about these particular injuries is that both Palmer and Thomas may never play again, which is a shame.
AFC West is the best
For a while I thought that the NFC North was probably the best division in football but Rodgers got hurt and the Vikings are starting to pull away so it isn't anymore. Because of this (and because the Raiders and Chargers have started to play good) the AFC West is now IMO the best in football. It has 4 good to great teams in it all of whom are in the playoff hunt and produced one of the best games of the year on Thursday. Seriously, it was awesome.
Other random notes
-That was the best game the Patriots have played since the AFC Championship Game against the Steelers. They look to be back on track, like I thought they would.
-The Panthers are the Jaguars of the NFC.
-The Eagles are good, but I want to see how they fair against the likes of the Rams and Cowboys before I buy that they are great.
-The Steelers have won the last couple games, but I don't forget their losses to the Mike Glennon lead Bears and the Sacksonville Jaguars. So like the other Pennsylvania team I don't buy that they are great.
-The Packers are bad without Rodgers. Winter has started early for them, so now is a good time to hibernate Packers fans.
-The Dolphins are the NFL's comeback kids and I love it. Jay Cutler was injured but he'll be back.
-If you haven't already watched it, here is the video I made about the Browns
-If you have any ideas for a segment replacing the road to 16-0 let me know.
THE ROAD TO 0-16
2 teams currently don't have a win. I will do this segment until every team has a win.
Teams that currently don't have a win:
San Francisco 49ers
Cleveland Browns
Last week I said that the Browns would be most likely to 0-16 over the 49ers because of the 49ers benching Brian Hoyer for CJ Beathard. It was the only week that I didn't have them listed as a team that was most likely to go 0-16. After the Cowboys loss I now regret that decision. With that said the 49ers are the team most likely to go 0-16 IMO.
Week 7 is now over and I look forward to seeing you all again come Week 8! This is spiderfan out.
