Hey everybody, it is me spiderfan here and today is time for me to give my random thoughts and stuff on Week 14 of the National Football League season. Let us begin!
To catch up
So, the Cleveland Browns fired VP of Football Operations Sashi Brown this past week. They then hired former Chiefs GM John Dorsey to replace him. Now personally I do not think that Brown should have been fired. I think the talent level on the Browns is better than 1-28 and so therefore he should not be blamed for the terrible record. I do however blame Hue Jackson who came in as a highly touted coach, who was produced no results, and has made questionable coaching decisions throughout his tenure such as the mismanagement of Deshone Kizer.
Kizer BTW should stay the QB of the Browns, instead of them drafting Sam Darnold or Josh Rosen or Josh Allen. This is primarily because Kizer has shown flashes this season and I think it would be waste to either get rid of him or put him on the bench. Imagine if Hue actually got behind Kizer instead of changing the lineup constantly. The Browns would not be winless. Apparently none of that matters because Hue will stay on at least for next year. A true Browns move.
Paul DePodesta (AKA The Moneyball Guy) will stay on, as he answers to Browns owner Jimmy Haslam and not new GM John Dorsey. Smart on the Browns for keeping DePodesta, one of the few smart things they have done in recent years.
Wentzylvania in shock
The HUGE story coming out of this weekend is of course the injury to likely MVP candidate Carson Wentz. This seems eerily similar to the injury Derek Carr suffered last year around this same time, which ultimately cost the Raiders a chance at the Super Bowl. Like the Raiders last year, IMO this spells the end to the Eagles hopes of a trip to Minneapolis. They did secure their home playoff spot against the Rams, however I doubt a bye is in still in play. Now you may be asking yourself "Why are the Eagles done in your opinion? They have Nick Foles." similar to various articles that have come out of the weekend.
My response is simple Nick Foles? You think Nick Foles keeps the Eagles SB contenders?
Actual contenders
This weekend made me realize something. Both the Carolina Panthers and the Sacksonville Jaguars are both SB contenders. Both teams are currently clicking on all cylinders and you've got to love the football both are playing. The Panthers with their Auburn-esque offense and great defense, and Sacksonville with their excellent defense and great running game. Looking forward to seeing them both in the postseason. IMO they are both the best teams in their conferences.
The Tinys continue to shrink... somehow
You clean house, you bring Eli Manning back, you're at home, you're tied in the 4th quarter with a good Cowboys team. You then give up 20 unanswered and get blown out within minutes. That my friends can only describe the New York Football Tinys. They just continue to become even more tiny and miniature every week of the season. Worst team in football period.
THE LOLCOW REPORT
There actually isn't anything to laugh about this week. The Lolcows were actually the Broncos this week and played good against a good Jets team. Sadly, Jets starter Josh McCown broke his hand and is out for the season. The Jets rebuild can finally start and it is a shame because they were one of the feel good stories of this season.
Other thoughts:
-How bout them Cowboys, Bears, and 49ers?!
-THE CHIEFS ARE BACK hopefully. Finally. Maybe.
-The Chargers are great... except they can't win a game in a crunch time. They better hope every game goes like this past one against the Redskins did.
-The NFC North is still up for grabs amazingly. Should be interesting to see what happens.
-The Steelers aren't contenders. At some point their luck will run out.
-Congrats to the Dolphins on the upset of the Patriots.
-Congrats to Josh Gordon on his 1st NFL TD catch in 3 years.
THE ROAD TO 0-16
Team that currently doesn't have a win. I will do this segment until every team has a win.
Team that currently doesn't have a win:
Cleveland Browns
The Browns are still here after all these weeks and I still think they will a game. Although the game on Sunday did give me some pause on that prediction.
I hope you all enjoyed this edition of my Random Thoughts & Stuff and to close here are the highlights of the epic snow game in Buffalo. See yall next week!
