ANALYSIS
Being the only home game this season against the Blizzard, the Titans will search for their first home win in over a season. Cedar Rapids won just a single game in 2017, and that was a against the Blizzard in Green Bay.
Green Bay was competitive through the first three quarters of their opener against the Iowa Barnstormers. The Blizzard entered the final quarter down by just a touchdown, only to see Barnstormers score three times in the quarter en route to the 41-20 decision. The 21 point differential was the largest in the IFL during opening weekend. With just 21 yards passing, the Blizzard are last in that category. A bright spot is in the return game where IFL Hall of Famer B.J. Hill averaged 24.4 yards per return with a long of 31 yards.
Christian Lemay got the start under center and had limited success. Lemay completed just over 30 percent of his passes, but he had some success in the running game, averaging 5.3 yards per carry and scoring a touchdown. Backup quarterback Raymond Cotton saw a little game action but did not throw a pass. If Lemay struggles, Cotton could see more time. Jasen Oden Jr. amassed 51 yards on the ground, and Chris Malott caught the team's only touchdown through the air, and almost had another, but was unable to haul in a pass before going over the dasher board. Hill, a defensive back, let the Titans defense in total tackles. Josh Francis and Robert Metz each had a sack in the opener against the Barnstormers. Jeff Budzien hit both of his extra point attempts, and went 2 of 4 on his field goal tries with a long of 43.
Cedar Rapids had a rough start last week in the season-opening loss to the Nebraska Danger. The Titans fell behind early and at one time trailed 23-6. They mounted a comeback late in the second quarter, scoring two touchdowns in the last 12 seconds to draw to within two points at the half. After scoring a rouge on the opening kickoff of the second half. Then, the Danger took over, outscoring the Titans 21-11 in the second half. That leaves head coach Marvin Jones looking for his first win as the Titans head coach in this one.
Jake Medlock made his first career indoor football start for the Titans. His stats look good, 16 of 36 for 119 yards and a couple of touchdown passes. Medlock also rushed for two touchdowns. He could make a mark in this game; he was under control and didn't make mistakes. He will have to lead his team to some fourth down conversions. Tyler Thomas is the featured back, and can be a threat out of the backfield, as he caught 5 passes for 34 yards and a touchdown in the opener. Connor Hollenbeck, the Titans' most experienced wide receiver, had 5 receptions for 34 yards and a touchdown. It was a fairly balanced effort for the Titans in the opener. Cedric Dozier had 9 total tackles while Ricardo Bell had a sack. Michael Georgetti made 1 of his 2 extra point tries, and 1 of two of his field goal attempts. The make was from 18 yards out.
