The Rams just completed their inaugural season in the Indoor Football Association. Rockford went undefeated in its eight regular season games, before cruising through the IFA playoffs and into the Championship Game. The Rams defeated the Madison Mad Dawgs, 88-34. to claim the championship. They advanced to the title game with a 70-14 win over the Wilmot Phoenix a week earlier. The Rams outscored their opponents by a margin of over 50 points per game and hit the century mark twice. Their largest Margin of victory was against 100 points; a 112-12 win over the Green County Outlaws on April 21. Their closest point margin came in a 56-42 win over the Mad Dawgs on March 31.
The team, located in Rockford, Illinois, is is largely comprised of local talent, and gives players an opportunity to compete at a competitive level within its league and through additional games, such as this one against the Edge. Rockford is located in North-Central Illinois, about halfway between Chicago and Dubuque, Iowa.
Per the IFA's mission statement the league "creating opportunity for local and talented athletes that want to do more than play a game of 'semi-pro' football or got overlooked because of the timing of life events. It has been proven time and time again that anyone can start and or play at the level of semi-pro in one capacity or another. Then what?? That is why we are doing the things we are doing to bridge that gap and present additional exposure to the athletes that are working to have another shot."

The Edge were poised to join the Indoor Football League this season but, due to a legal dispute brought forth by their former league, Champions Indoor Football, they were forced to sit out a season. That led to this late summer schedule. The original plan was to play six games, but only four opponents have been announced. The team has talent on the roster, including veteran indoor quarterbacks Caleb Holbrook and Patrick Ryan. The Edge also feature on their training camp roster wide receiver Brandynn Clark, who spent the first half of the IFL season with the Sioux Falls Storm.
Bloomington will look at these summer games at Grossinger Motors Arena as bridging the gap between their 2017 CIF season and their 2019 IFL season. Interestingly, this game is set to start just two hours before the IFL's championship game, the United Bowl. The Edge are located in Bloomington, Illinois, adjacent to Normal, home of the Frontier League's baseball Cornbelters.
The Edge were founded in 2006 and actually played in the IFL from 2009 through 2012. They made the playoffs in each of those seasons, but were unable to advance to the United Bowl. After two seasons in the Champions Professional Football League and a year in the X-League, the Edge moved to the CIF, where they advanced to the playoffs in both years. Over their 12 seasons in existence, the Edge have amassed an 87-69 regular season record, as well as a mark of 3-8 in the playoffs. They went 7-5 in 2017 in the CIF, but lost to the Omaha Beef, 43-30, in the Northern Conference Semifinal.
