This is the 2018-19 Regular Season schedule for the Spokane Chiefs.
The Chiefs play in the U.S. Division of the WHL's Western Conference. The U.S. Division features the 5 teams from the United States and, in addition to Spokane, consists of the Everett Silvertips, Portland Winterhawks, Seattle Thunderbirds, and Tri-City Americans.
Spokane is coming off a successful regular season in which they returned to the playoffs after a one year absence. The Chiefs failed to advance past the Western Conference Quarterfinals, losing in a hard fought seven game series against the Portland Winterhawks.
The 2018-19 Season is the first season in which the WHL will adopt a 68-game season schedule, a 4 game reduction from the 72-game schedule the league has had since the 1975-76 Season. As a result, the Chiefs (as well as the other 21 WHL clubs) will play 34 home and 34 away games, down from 36 home and 36 away. With the new game schedule, the schedule balances out to an average of 10-12 games from October to February, and at least 5 home games in each month.
The Chiefs open their 2018-19 campaign on the road against the Tri-City Americans on Saturday, September 22nd. The opening season match-up resumes after a one-year hiatus, in which the Chiefs opened against the Prince George Cougars after beginning the season in Kennewick dating back to the 2010-11 Season.
Spokane will open the season at home on Saturday, September 29 on Bud Light Opening Night. For the second consecutive season, the Chiefs will open at home against the Kootenay ICE. The Chiefs will then hit the road for a Sunday afternoon affair with the Vancouver Giants before returning home for back-to-back home games the following weekend. The Chiefs will then commence their two-week Eastern Conference road trip, with games against the WHL Champion Swift Current Broncos, Moose Jaw Warriors, Brandon Wheat Kings, Regina Pats, Saskatoon Blades, and Prince Albert Raiders.
In addition to Bud Light Opening Night, popular promotions of past years will be return, including the 8th annual Leinenkugel's Hocktoberfest event on October 29 against Tri-City. HOCKtoberfest is an Oktoberfest themed fan festival outside the Spokane Arena that starts at 4 p.m., 3 hours before puck drop. As with all HOCKtoberfest promotions in the past, fans will have a chance to win a weekend getaway to the German themed tourist town of Leavenworth, WA, courtesy of Leinenkugel's. There will also be a silent auction featuring Chiefs memorabilia.
The annual Teddy Bear Toss presented by the Spokesman-Review Christmas Fund will take place on December 8 against the Kootenay ICE. Fans are encouraged to bring a teddy bear to throw on the ice after the Chiefs score their first goal. All bears and stuff animals will then be donated to the Spokesman-Review's Christmas Fund.
Also expected to return this year will be the annual Breast Cancer Awareness night and the Jerseys Off Their Back auction.
Home games are noted in bold red. All times are PST.
