This sounds really stupid. If teams want to win, they have to be better than the other team. That includes defending whatever offense the opponent plays. I hope this is not passed.

i think i mentioned this on facebook, but this is a horrible idea. if you want to beat a team, devise a plan to beat them rather than trying to get around the rules. this is just stupid.

ESPN reported more on this story the other night after the Blazers-Hawks game. it looks like the NCAA is going to table this rule change proposal until next off season. the ESPN reporter said they asked all 120 FBS coaches how they felt about it and only 19 we in favor of the rule. he also said none of them could point to any statistical analysis to indicate that it would result in fewer injuries. Nick Saban defended his original comment, but said he wasn't favoring it because it would help defense. his statement was pretty adamant on that. This story in the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer is interesting. they talk about lack of injury evidence, but also about the referees' need to be able to get into position between plays. i think they are both moot points. referees haven't had much of an issue knowing where to position themselves. they certainly know when they are working a fast-faced game. adjusting themselves to the temp of the game is merely part of their jobs.
