ANALYSIS
In this battle of the IFL's 2-2 teams, the Blizzard will try to win their second straight, while the Steamwheelers will attempt avoid dropping their second game in a row. Record-wise, the teams look pretty even. Both are 1-1 at home and 1-1 on the road. Each team's wins have come against sub-.500 teams, while each team's losses come to plus-.500 teams. The Blizzard have gained as many yards on the ground as through the air. While that seems like a nice balance, the play selection is heavily lopsided in the run game. The Steamwheelers feature one of the post prolific passers in the IFL, and it shows in their 5-2 balance in favor of the pass to the run. Green Bay would like to run a ball-control offense, while Quad City will look for the shootout. This could come down to a key special teams play, or how each defense responds to the other's offensive attack -- or both. This should make for an interesting balance to those catching the game on Youtube.
What Lenorris Footman may lack in the passing game (43.8 percent completion percentage), he makes up for in the running game. He is second in the IFL (and leads quarterbacks with 64.3 yards rushing per game, and has hit the end zone six times in the team's four games. Despite his 106.5 passing yards per game, he is has tossed five picks against five touchdowns. Avoiding turnovers will be key for the rookie quarterback in this game. Rameses Owens was a nice compliment in the Blizzard's win over the San Diego Strike Force last week, gaining 60 yards on 12 carries and two touchdowns. Even in a rush-heavy offense, B.J. Hill and Levi Copelin have been featured in the passing attack. Hill, already an IFL Hall of Famer, has 13 catches for 164 yards with two touchdowns to lead the group. Kezlow Smith also features prominently. Linebacker Dayshawn Taylor leads the team with 28 tackles and DB Marquez Gollman has 24 on the season, as well as a pair of interceptions and a fumble recovery. Fellow DB Bakari Triggs comes in with a league-high three interceptions. He and Joe Powell returned picks for touchdowns within a 18-second span against the Strike Force. Linemen Truett Box and Delrick Canty come in with 2.5 and two sacks, respectively. Cody Barber has been largely effective in the kicking game; hitting 11 of 14 extra point tries and five of nine field goal attempts with a long of 40 yards.
E.J. Hilliard is second to only San Diego's Derrick Bernard in passing yards per game at 195.5 (Bernard is at 200.0). Hilliard leads the IFL with 18 passing touchdowns, which puts him on pace for 63 on the regular season. He is completing 62.4 percent of his passes and, perhaps most impressively, has not thrown an interception in 93 attempts. He also boasts a 4.6 rushing average and three touchdowns on the ground. Carlos Wiggins, rushing for 6.9 yards per carry, will be called upon to aid in the rushing game, and backup QB Dillon Turner has shown up as of late as an option in both facets of the offense. Quinton Pedroza is one of the best IFL pass catchers out there with 20 receptions for 299 yards and a league-high nine scoring grabs. Keyvan Rudd is not too far behind, coming in with 17 catches for 291 yards and seven touchdown receptions. Defensive back Danzel McDaniel's 35 tackles pace the Steamwheelers defense, while LB La'Kel Bass has recorded 21. Defensive back Everett Nicholas V has intercepted a pair of passes, and Keith Lewis has one interception on the season. Four Quad City defenders have tallied sacks this season. Kenneth Rowe, has kicked the past two games after replacing the injured Jacob Stytz. Rowe has hit 11 of 15 point after attempts and one of his two field goal tries.
